Son and I rented a camper van with 4x4/F-road approval for 8 days - west, highlands/south, east

Unfortunately, we can't afford guides. We would love to but guides are a treat on east coast and Bahamas and it looks like Iceland (it's bucket list place) is double that. Sure it's worth it.

We bought the iceland public fishing cards and will have a 4 and 5 weight rods. Not really interested in deep wades because don't want to deal with powerful cold water and recovery in a small van.

18 year old son is a stick (picture is him 8 years ago) and is off to college in Sept. I am pretty alright, used to be much better when I had some time.

Apologies for anybody offended by the no guide. Just can't swing it.

Any advice on locations and and also camping sites near or on rivers/lakes. Of course would die for dry fly action, but all is good with anything.

And/or fly shops that will point you in the right (non summer touristy) spot if you are a decent human and good customer

And will post photos of any spots recod that we go to. And it's a great day of fly fishing, even if you don't catch one. Just need to know that they are there.
