Is it a Ku Leuven thing to not give us past exams , not even the ones we took?

(Note that I study business engineering at campus brussels)

I dont know why they just wont give you some past exams only “mocks” or “samples” ,which do not reflect the actual difficulty of the exam.

Does a retake of a course for a 3rd time show up on your Transcript?

When you receive your transcript, does it show up as a course you’ve attempted in multiple academic years or does it only show the year you take the course?

Social Life for International Students?

I’m thinking of going to KU Leuven, and want to know what social life looks like. I’m from the US, thinking about entering the English philosophy program. What does social life look like for students from other countries? Especially for students who don’t speak Dutch/flemish? I worry there won’t be a lot of student organizations/opportunities for me to be engaged in as someone who doesn’t speak the native language. Is this a well-founded fear, or not?

Professional card Non-EU

Hello, I’m a non-EU student and I’m thinking about appling for a professional card for self-employed activities in Belgium.
How difficult is it to obtain one while being a student? Has anyone here successfully gotten one? Or if you have heard it

Thanks!

Urgent: Guesthouse confirmation needed for visa appointment

Hi! I’m coming to KU Leuven for a workshop in September and applied for a room at the KU Leuven Guesthouse for my 5-day stay, but I haven’t received the room confirmation yet.

I need the confirmation for my Belgian visa appointment. If I don’t receive it by 10 AM CEST on August 17, I’ll lose my visa appointment, and I’m currently unable to reschedule it.

Has anyone dealt with this before or knows who I could contact to get the Guesthouse booking confirmed in time? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've already mailed guesthousing@kuleuven.be, tried calling them too but I think theyre off on the weekend?

MIP- Submitting thesis without ever contacting my supervisor

Here is the thing, I had a supervisor that was changed in May to a new person due to a maternity leave. This professor has emailed me to establish some plan and see my work up to date and I never replied to him. By every week it felt more and more awkward and I also did not have much progress. I was in contact with my previous supervisor but she has not see a lot of written work as I was procrastinating during the first semester and then the exams came.

Anyway, I feel like my thesis is pretty solid, the part that I am most worried about is methodology of course. They can roast me hard there. I wrote it by myself, AI was used just for grammar checks and so I know it by heart and I am not afraid of any accusations. However, my question is, after submitting will I automatically get a defense date or do I need some prior approval from the supervisor?

Should I come clean and contact him even after the deadline apologizing for not being in touch? How common is it that they fail a thesis in MIP? No matter what my supervisor thinks will get a defense? I am also eligible to have an online one but now I don’t know if I should not rather come in person. Thank youuu for all the answers in advance.

Village G - Wilgimmo Leuven

I will be renting from September at Village G residence in Leuven. I have had a very bad experience with my current housing in Leuven, so I just want a little hope that things will be better at the new residence.

Anyone that has rented there or knows someone that did? What is your experience?

I saw on the google reviews that sometimes they just enter your room without prior notice... Why would they want to enter the room in the first place?

Sociology Master’s at KU Leuven

Hi! I’m starting the Master’s in Sociology at KU Leuven and I’ve been trying to find people talking about their experience with the program, but there really isn’t much online.

For anyone currently in the program or who has completed it, what is it like? How difficult/workload-heavy is it, what are the professors and courses like, and did you generally enjoy it?

Would love to hear any experiences or advice before starting! :)

Advice on doing an internship or getting a part-time

Hi everyone,
I’ll be joining KU Leuven this fall and as a masters student, and I am bit thorn apart about what to do in my first year there: getting an internship to do throughout the school year, like accompanying a research group or a company, or get a part time (20h per week) to save money.
Regarding the first option, I wanna get more experience, learn more things and enrich my CV, as I’m non-EU, I know that I have to do more than other EU-students in order for the recruiters to even consider my application, so that’s a consideration.
Regarding the second option, although strictly speaking, I don’t need that extra money to cover my expenses and tuition fees, I wanna save money to be able to travel with friends and spend money on things I’d like, in other words, to enjoy to the maximum the time I spend in Belgium.
At the end, I don’t know what to prioritize, and I’ve thought about getting the part-time during the school year and then the internship next summer, however, I’m scared that the research groups for companies don’t take students for short internships of only 2 months or so, as I’ve heard there are some that only have students who stay more than 6 months.
Can anyone give me advice about this?
Note: I’m assuming the internship would be unpaid normally, correct me if I’m wrong.

Edit: Guys, I know that getting an internship or even securing a part-time is very hard. But that’s not the question nor why I made this post. All I’m asking is whether I should focus on the part-time or the internship .

12-month blocked account if only re-enrolling for thesis?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have experience re-enrolling at KU Leuven only for a Master’s thesis and defending in January?

If I re-enrol for 2026–27, would KU Leuven allow me to set up a 12-month blocked account and renew my student residence permit for 12 months, or would they only allow a 5–6 month blocked account/permit until the January defence and graduation?

Would really appreciate hearing from any non-EU students who have been in a similar situation. Thanks!
