I guess the petrol pump owner was right

Most cars come with a child-lock that makes it so that the door can not be opened from inside and this is a safety feature meant to protect children from opening car doors when seated.

However, people with bad intentions can and will absolutely use this to coerce payments, threaten or straight up kidnap vulnerable people.

To all the women and the children that use ride-share services please absolutely make sure you can open the door from the inside BEFORE you enter the vehicle.

Basic check can be done this way if you can't locate the child lock on the door:

1. Pull the rear window down.
2. while still OUTSIDE the car put your hand in and open the door
3. If you can open it then, your ride is not using a child-lock, if however you are not able to open the door then WALK AWAY. No matter the justification, you need to walk away. Rather be safe than sorry.

Gullaan Bharo was a mother of two from Goth Shah Bakhsh Bharo, Sukkur. She left her violent husband and had been living with her father for 2–3 years. She hadn't filed for khula.

Her husband declared her kari. Said she deserved to be killed. She ran.

She fled through the kacha area, riverine jungle, bushes, thorns. Her face and body were covered in cuts and scratches when she finally reached Ghulam Bund police station. The cops there actually did something rare, they took her in and filed a challan the next day.

The court ordered her to be transferred to Darul Aman. A shelter. Safety.

Then her father showed up at court. He laid his pag at her feet, begging her to come home. Her mother begged too. Gullaan had been saying she wanted to go to Darul Aman. But after her father's plea, she agreed to go back.

Before leaving, she made a video statement in Sindhi:

"I know I will be killed. I am a mother of two children, but for the sake of my father's dignity I will sacrifice myself and go back to live with him."

That was April 24.

On May 2, her husband Sikki Lagau and his uncle Maula Bakhsh broke into her home and shot her with a Kalashnikov.

Both have been arrested. FIR under Section 302.

She named them as threats in her police statement. The judge gave no additional protection orders. Her father promised safety.

She went home anyway. She knew what was coming.

The kids at Safari Park in Karachi see a dinosaur. Nasir Dada from Lyari is sweating through it.
