Airs this Saturday evening
Wow. I went back and watched an episode of 48 Hours from a few years ago and now, having watched the trial, it’s wild how generic and often erroneous these prime time true crime shows are. I’m addicted to them but even her original lawyer says something that‘s not true. and her mom & brother…..yikes! she either had them buffaloed or they’re big time liars (maybe some of both).
My favorite part of Mr. Bloodworth’s closing was the translation of the WTD letter into what the evidence showed. (“Don’t get caught. That would be horrible.” 😂) Anyone want to translate her nonsense narcissistic letter to her boys at sentencing? I’d start with her lecture on loyalty and not trusting people that betray you. Translation: Josh Grossman went to the family and investigators to reveal our affair. I hate him.
I am assuming essentially zero. But if she were to get a new trial, and her defense was somehow able to keep the Walk the Dog letter out of the trial (I am assuming her lawyers will use that as a basis of justification for a new trial, that it was allowed in the first place)……does Kouri have a chance at prevailing? The actual direct evidence was pretty thin tbh. The circumstantial evidence was strong, and WtD tied it all together.
I haven't been following this case from the beginning and just learned about it a couple weeks ago. What would be the best way to catch up without watching the entirety of the trial on it's own? Is there a YouTube or TikTok series that has followed it or a podcast with more multiple parts going over everything?
I coincidentally had a trip scheduled in Park City with her trial and the case fresh in mind after the sentencing. I'm leaving today. This is my first time really getting to know the area, and wow is it beautiful. It blows my mind that she was so set on her ways to give all this beauty and awe up for prison walls for life. I hope the Richins family is able to find lasting peace surrounded by this wonder. There has been some unseasonable snow, and I can't help but think of what that means symbolically - transition, renewal, peace and purity. Try as she might, she can't stop forces of nature!
How much cell phone time/technology time, if any will she get?
She seemed very outraged in one of the phone calls when the coroner suggested the possibility of covid. Something I didn’t really understand because in her shoes you think she would latch onto any possible alternative to poisoning. It was very strange almost like a pride thing. Like she didn’t want to have to tell people her husband died of COVID. I’m not sure what to make of it. Perhaps she was too focused on hoping it would be interpreted as an overdose?
Why do you think Kouri Richins lawyers put on no defense at all? How often does that happen? I don't recall seeing that before!
Does anyone know what LWOP really looks like in Utah? Lewis et al said it’s lock down 23h/day, no on person visitation, but they lie and exaggerate so much I don’t believe them (just watch Judge M correct Lewis at the sentencing for an example). There’s nothing I can find online - does anyone know ?
1)She lied, cheated and stole from friends and family to give the appearance of being successful, wealthy and privileged.
(I can kind of understand this. She was probably extremely desperate to escape her past life. Her father was an alcoholic that went to prison and her mother was a compulsive gambler. She had very little financial or emotional security. As a teenager…She was probably jealous of classmates with money and a stable home life.)
She murdered her husband.
(Again, although I don’t agree with her actions, I can understand her logic. She was chasing the all mighty dollar. Her identity was based on being successful and wealthy. She did whatever it took to maintain that image.)
She wrote a book on grief and actively promoted herself on morning shows and podcasts.
(I don’t understand this. If I had murdered my husband… I would do everything in my power to lay low and fly under the radar.)
She wrote a letter to the police explaining her actions when she knew she was under investigation.
( Surely she knew they would take things out of context and use her letter against her. But she simply HAD to control the narrative.)
She called the medical examiner and taped their conversation.
(Kouri is NOT someone that allows the process to happen. She jumped in and took control immediately. Even though it made her look guilty.)
Walk the Dog Letter
(Kouri has more nerve than me. She actually thought she would get away with witness tampering. Once again…controlling the narrative.)
Her mother anonymously sent a copy of Kouri’s book to the police.
Neither Kouri or her mom are particularly smart.
She used a burner phone and threatened Amy.
This shows a deep rage and an inability to control her emotions. She simply HAD to have the last word.
She allowed most of their family pets to die.
Is she sadistic? Does she actually enjoy causing pain?
Before her trial…She gave a phone interview while in jail and she proclaimed her innocence. She vowed to expose the corrupt people that put her in jail.
(Once again…did she really think this would help her? She has more nerve than me.)
She tried to have charges brought against Eric‘s father for firearms. She called child and protective services on Katie and reported Amy for marijuana. I believe she also reported the prosecutor to the FBI.
(She’s vindictive beyond words. All of those things make her look more guilty.)
At sentencing…her childish allocation…she simply WILL NOT shut up and stop with her foolish behavior.
This is my question… What is wrong with Kouri?
Was she extremely scarred by her past?
Is she a psychopath?
Is she a narcissist?
Is she sadistic?
Kouri makes Jodi Arias look like a saint.
I watch a lot of true crime content and I’ve never seen anyone like her.
Perhaps Diane Downs or Celeste Beard.
Any thoughts?
So after Mzzz Lewis gave her soliloquy at sentencing, Mr. Bloodworth asked the judge if state needed to respond. Judge M said he had it in hand, and was NOT striking the sentencing memo from the record. We’ve heard his teacher tone before and this was definitely it. I’m wondering what pushed his buttons. It could be any number of things the defense pulled at sentencing with their usual gaslighting, but I’m also wondering how annoyed he was with the message KR sent to her admirer that Mr. Bloodworth submitted as part of sentencing memo. She knows all of her communications are read. She’s begging for attention and is just defiant. Judge M’s patience and tolerance are extremely high but maybe it’s a whole bunch of straws just piling up.
And he’s so smart. Do you think he had already considered the defense’s argument about the boys reconsidering their relationship w KR in the future as part of his contemplation of the appropriate sentence, or he incorporated that on the fly in response to defense argument? He didn’t even take a break before delivering sentence.
I'm still struck by Ms. Lewis saying Kouri is her first wrongly convicted client. Of course, it's remarkable she announced her belief in the guilt of all th⁶ose other clients. But let's put that aside and accept she believes Kouri is innocent.
Look, I understand the temptation to attack that conclusion. But please don't. Rather, accept that a smart person who knows the facts has a good-faith belief that Kouri is innocent.
Now, how is that view possible?
For example: Could Ms. Lewis think Kouri is innoncent because she believes Eric voluntarily took illicit pills and overdosed? Or maybe she thinks Kouri did give him drugs but was somehow justified? Or something else?
Hi All,
This is a great subreddit! I've fallen head-first into going back to the beginning and following this whole case. Everything is just pure cinema. Bloodworth is such a beast. Kouri is so evil, it's hard to take in! Lisa too. Poor Eric. His poor sisters and those poor boys. Where should I start to systematically get the most engaging content from this whole ordeal? Court TV has seemed good; should I start through their trial playlist? Any must-read magazine articles or other online essays/articles? Thank you so much in advance!
Edit: Thanks for all the awesome feedback. This subreddit rocks.
Has it ever been looked into if Kouri had any type of bond for her real-estate business. I understand UT doesn’t require a surety bond but some brokerages require an E/O bond, however she didn’t work with a brokerage.
I hate listening to her whiney and fake 911 call, but it is just so bizarre, and like a car crash, can’t turn away. Her Minnie Mouse voice. Weird pauses. Fake crying and sniffles. Did the kids actually enter the room while she was on the 911 call? She is saying ‘get out get’ out as if they walked in and it does sound like a door shuts. The kids victim impact statements mentioned the door being locked at some point in the night, so not sure if they actually entered or if she heard them and just yelled to get out. Also, who opened the front door? I have long thought her mother was involved. On the body cam, Katie asks what happened and Lisa comes in hot and fast with “WE don’t know” and “WE went to bed.” Poor Eric. He was doomed.
On May 13, 2026 Kouri Richins was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole on the aggravated murder charge. She also received the max sentencing on the other charges to run consecutively.

I was being nosey on social media the other day, and it looks like Chelsea Barney is still friends with Kouri, Ronney, and Lisa on Facebook. Does Chelsea Barney believe Kouri? Does she forgive her? There’s a gofundme open for Chelsea to recoup money lost as a result of her dealings with Kouri, so just found it wild they are still connected via social media where Chelsea looks to still be active. Anyone else think this is crazy?!
