what sort of fixture can i put on this standing lamp to softwn the light? it seems like there was once maybe glass or light gel but im not sure what to get that would fit correctly in this space. There are two tabs as you can see to hold something in place. Any ideas?

Over a year ago I got a salt lamp for Christmas. After a few months it stopped turning on so I just stopped using it. After a while I tried to plug it in and it turned on. How is that possible? I continued to use it but then it stopped working again. Does anyone know how to fix this thing and what is the problem?
