Something I made 40ish years ago.

Created for a Woodturning show in Philadelphia. I think about six months work to build. Top birds nest shape is vacuum laminated. Each individual piece has 30 or so laminated layers of veneer.

Finally had to take the lower half apart as it would always come back from shows damaged. Way too fragile to travel.

It was featured in one of the first Woodturning magazine spreads.

Im sorry you had to find out this way... (artwork title)

[ID: A mosaic styled butterfly made out of mirror stickers on a white rose, set on a black background]

i originally wanted to make it with real mirror shards but then I realized I didn't have a glass cutter nor a mirror that isn't being used, so I use a next best thing.

As for the title, I don't really know why I chose it specifically, it just felt right. Maybe it has something to do with butterflies being a symbol of transformation and white roses that means new beginnings and also commonly seen with funerals i guess...
