T1000e iOS & Android differences / Music festival config

Hi all,

fairly new to meshtastic so apologies if I'm missing something obvious but my googlefu is letting me down.

I've got myself and my partner T1000es mostly for backup comms at music festivals.

We're a mixed faith household I'm on apple & she's on android.

As far as I can tell I've set us up the same but on my iphone my slot and override are both 0 but on android they are set to other values and if I try to change them they just jump back.

Another friend has just grabbed the T1000e and I also have an nrf based node I'm hoping to use in client base at the campsite to try and boost the range if I get time to build it before we go.

I've set a private channel so we can share location & chat which seems to be working but the double press on the T1000e to send location doesn't seem to do anything except beep.

Any suggestions welcome.

Beginner question

Hello,

I'm waiting for my device, but I want to ask - why you're using meshtastic, not meshcore (or opposite)?

From what I understood, meshtastic is more like ad-hoc network, good if you're in a move, with friends on the move etc., and meshcore is more like stable local network. Am I understood it right?

Node on Commercial Flight.

I am interested in your opinions.

I have read that nodes on plane should be Client_Mute or it can degree the Mesh.

It can however be useful for Client to find local Nodes just out of normal range, encouraging mesh improvement to get a more permanent connection.

If you are on a flight, adding a ✈️ symbol to node name would separate you from ground based nodes. as many don't display altitude.

Antenna tuning.

I have 2 Heltec V3's which came with the stubby antenna.

has anyone tested to see what the antenna are tuned to?

the frequency range of the unit covers 868 to 923.Mhz

If I buy a longer whip they are marked as 868 or 915.

how much am I loosing due to this type of antenna?

Edit I am in the UK so 868Mhz EDIT Thanks for the response. I will look for the Google Data mentioned in one reply. I guessed the lack of reliable messaging may be attributed to 2 of my nodes using the stock stubby antenna.
