Chess games from fourth episode of the first season
I had a lot of free time now, so I started watching something I've been wanting to watch for a long time, and my second stop was Moon Girl, after Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, where I also took apart a chess game, AND I WAS VERY HAPPY WHEN I SAW A WHOLE EPISODE RELATED TO CHESS. And surprisingly, it seems good...
Is chess quite popular in superhero media?
The first game, between Lunela and LOS, is divided into two parts and I have roughly reconstructed it, we are also shown the process of the game, but it is not very legible, so I am not confident in my ability to reconstruct it... Although it is clear that Lunela starts the game with a pawn move on the kingside.
From what they ended up with the first time, it looks like a normal endgame and what could theoretically happen. I'm 500 ELO, so excuse me, but I asked a smart computer to calculate the approximate next moves, and here they are:
- Qd8+, Qc8, 2. Ra8+, Kxa8, 3. Qxc8+, Ka7, 4. Nxf5, Kb6, 5. Nd4, Rc7, 6. Qb8+, Kc5, 7. Qxc7+, Kxd4, 8. c5, g4, 9. Qd6+, Ke3, 10. c6, Kf3, 11. c7, g3, 12. c8=Q, Kg2, 13. Qd2+, Kg1, 14. Qh3, g2, 15.Qdxg2#
I think Lunela has a very high ELO if she can compete with a very good chess computer, how they was presented to us in the episode, so I don't understand why she says she's far from checkmate... I think she could have come up with this combination?
The next part of the game, well... Not very good, to put it mildly.
The white king is missing and the position makes no sense compared to what it was at the beginning. And between frames the position does not change, although Lunela says that she moved her king away from check, but it remained in place in the general plan, and that LOS moved their rook from d8 to d6 and it changed little, although they say it is check.
It seems to be either chess puzzles or games of Lunela against bots or other players on the internet, and it seems to be pretty good, except that in the second game it seems that the king and queen are on the wrong squares.
Game #1:
A few moves have happened before this, but it can be restored!
- d4, f5, 2. g5, h6, 3. h4, g5, 4. e3, gxh4, 5. h5#
And it's like a scholar's mate... And it seems like something some people did to me a few times when I was 100 ELO... And now they do it from time to time...
Game #2:
Here, part of the board is covered by another tab on the computer, so it's a little disorienting, but it's a solid checkmate! Very nice.
A pawn cannot capture a knight because this pawn protects the king from an attack by the opponent's queen, and the king cannot retreat because he is surrounded by other pieces.
Game #3:
Here we are shown one of the moments in the middle game. And it's a very beautiful moment, in my opinion.
- Qb6, a3, 2. Qb2, Na4,
Wherever the queen is moved, it will be captured.
Game #4:
Quite an interesting position.
I think Lunel's first priority is to eliminate the threat of her queen with the opponent's bishop, and she has many options for this, even if it's nightmare...
It was VERY long and I got a little tired while sorting through these games... Sorry if there are any inaccuracies or mistakes. But I liked it!
I hope this was interesting to someone! Thanks for reading and good luck :)
