UK primary teacher considering moving to NZ – Auckland, Christchurch or Wellington?
I'm an experienced UK primary teacher currently looking at moving to New Zealand for January 2027. I am going through Prospero and have completed the relevant documentation. I'm particularly considering Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington and would love to hear from teachers who actually work in these areas.
I'm interested in things like school workload, behaviour, staff culture, cost of living, housing and general quality of life.
I've also been told by a recruiter that Auckland can be a good place for overseas teachers to start before potentially moving elsewhere. Is that something people would agree with? While Christchurch is my preferred location, I have been told that there are not as many accredited schools, so less likely to get a role there.
Any advice or experiences would be really appreciated from overseas teachers or anyone that can help. Thanks! :)
