Open Media Vault Forum What's Going On
So what's the story with the OMV forum? Seems like the infrastructure is very fragile. Anyone know what's going on?

Got this old computer that’s not really being used for anything. Has 16GB RAM (system max), Intel Core i5-650 and a 1TB mechanical hard drive. Was thinking of installing OMV and maybe mount a SSD for boot drive. If so, what could it be used for? Plex, Jellyfin?
Hey guys I was adding the finishing touches to my nas and configured smb and soon as I added a share to smb and clicked apply POOF the black screen of death happened and not really sure how to debug it
Specs first i guess;
Raspberry pi 5 8gb
Penta hat
12v 8A power brick.
3x 4tb drives
After yesterdays update (the in-gui one) my raspberry no longer sees any of my 3 drives.
Im not sure what to do next.
Its doubtfull that 1 drive died, since it cant even see the other 2 individialy.
Do i reinstall? But does that keep my raid settings? and will that solve the drives not being detected?
Perhaps my power brick is dying and it can no longer supply the amps needed to power the drives?
Its entirely possible that the penta hat crapped out. replacing that would be easy.
Or i remove the drives and extract the data in a windows machine, but buying a 12 tb drive...
Im just looking for advise, perhaps any of you have the same issue with more knowledge on how to fix it.
I've been running OMV on an RPi4 for several years. Today I noticed there were some pending updates so I clicked through to update everything. (There were a lot of updates.)
I kicked it off and looked at a different browser tab while it was running. Came back to find the login screen. Logged in to see the Pending Configuration Changes yellow bar. Everything typical so far.
At this point I'm stuck in a loop.
I click Apply and Yes. It thinks for a few seconds, then shows me a red box with the following text, which appears to be clipped:

What are my options? Reboot and cross my fingers? Anyone else run into this?
Hi, I’m having multiple permission issues on a fresh OpenMediaVault install (running in a Proxmox VM) and I’m not sure if they’re connected.
/srv/dev-disk-by-uuid-...julius) has Read/Write privileges and is in users + sambashare1. SMB is basically read-only
I can access the shares from my iPhone Files app and see folders, but I can’t:
2. WinSCP/SFTP login denied
SSH is enabled, but WinSCP says:
>
Using:
3. ACL recursive setting won’t save
In Storage → Shared Folders → ACL, owner changes save, but the “apply recursively” checkbox never sticks and no yellow “Apply changes” button appears.
I already checked:
Could this be a permissions/ACL problem, SSH config issue, or an OMV bug? Any ideas what to check next?
Hi all,
first time posting here since im new to openmediavault. I'm having issues with my reverse proxy setup. I'll give you some context and the reason why i think it's openmediavault related rather than router/switch.
ubiquiti switch is on 192.168.2.x but that shouldn't matter
When I navigate to openmediavault from anywhere in the network on it's internal mDNS name, I get the login page and can use openmediavault fine. If I navigate to the configured url in ngix I get a 504 timeout.
The reason why i think its config on omv:
good to know:
I'm familiar with networking by now, but by no means i would call myself an 'expert'.
If anyone has an idea, i will be forever grateful.
I’ve honestly wasted an embarrassing amount of time testing IPTV services over the last year because most of them look great on day 1… then fall apart fast. Some buffer nonstop during live sports, some have a bunch of “channels” that don’t even load, and others randomly go offline or disappear after you already paid.
After trying different providers across Firestick, Android TV, Smart TVs, and mobile, the one that consistently worked best for me was IP8KTV.
I tested it the same way I test every IPTV service: football matches, UFC/PPV events, prime-time evening hours, and movie nights (aka the times when IPTV usually breaks). What surprised me most was how stable it stayed during peak hours. Streams were smooth most of the time, channels loaded quickly, and the 4K streams actually looked like real 4K instead of the fake “4K” some providers slap on everything.
What stood out with IP8KTV (from my testing):
Strong USA/UK channel lineup (the stuff people actually watch)
Sports coverage held up well during live events (less buffering than the usual IPTV roulette)
VOD library was solid with a good amount of updated movies and series
Setup was straightforward using apps like IPTV Smarters and TiviMate (no weird complicated steps)
Another big thing: IP8KTV handled peak-hour traffic better than most services I tried recently. Even when there was a big match on and everyone’s streaming, it didn’t collapse the way a lot of IPTV providers do.
No IPTV service is perfect, obviously. But after trying a bunch of them in 2026, IP8KTV is one of the few that felt reliable enough to use daily instead of constantly troubleshooting.
Hi! What is the best way to edit the omv-snapraid.conf? The file itself says "Don't edit me! I'm auto-generated by the plugin!".
Background: I want to move my nvme with the content file further up (right now snapraid uses a version on one of the hdds). Google says "edit the snapraid.conf", Openmediavault says "don't do it or you mess things ups!" and the GUI doesn't give an option to change the priority of a drive. What should I do, I don't want to mess things up :/ ?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently using a mini PC as my "everything" server, but I’m hit a crossroads regarding data safety. Here’s my current setup:
• Hardware: Lenovo M910q (i5 6500T, 16GB RAM)
• Storage: 256GB M.2 SSD (boot/apps), 512GB + 1TB 2.5" HDDs, and a 1TB 3.5" HDD via an Axagon dock.
• OS: Headless Ubuntu.
Almost everything is running in Docker (except for Samba for network shares). My stack currently includes:
Caddy, Plex, multiple web servers + backends, Torrent, Kasm, Portainer, Grafana, Uptime Kuma, cAdvisor, Cloudflare, MySQL, Postgres, Paperless-ngx, phpMyAdmin, AdGuard Home, Wg-easy, and Home Assistant.
The problem:
Currently, I have zero parity, and I’m starting to get nervous about potential data loss. I’m considering switching to a dedicated "all-in-one" OS that simplifies management but still leaves room for experimentation.
What I'm considering:
• ZimaOS: Is it actually too "dumbed down" and oversimplified?
• OMV (OpenMediaVault): A solid contender.
• TrueNAS: Would my hardware be too weak for this? I've heard it can be quite resource-heavy.
• Unraid: Honestly, it feels a bit too expensive for my budget.
• Staying with Ubuntu: Just adding SnapRAID + MergerFS to the existing setup.
What would you recommend? Should I stick to my DIY Ubuntu setup or jump ship to a dedicated NAS OS? Thanks for the advice!
Keep getting this nagging pop up on my Mac that my time machine will no longer be able to be used once the next update or something comes down the line soon
I have a few older Mac’s and MacBook pros that I do TM back ups they no longer are able to be software updates unless I do some legacy hack but really dont want to at this time and my main MacBook Pro is still good for a bit longer for updates so that will break the use of the TM back ups
Does the TM option on omv work good does anyone use it or should I just go another route for back ups for my Macs
Thanks
Updates to my hard drive situation.
I'm using a raspberry pi 4 model B. I have a 4TB Western Digital drive and a 6TB Seagate drive. The 4TB Western Digital drive is plugged into a TP link USB 3.0 powered hub.
The 4TB western Digital drive is the one I'm having issues with. It appears in the Disks tab on the Web GUI and the SMART tab says the drive status is good, but when I go to the file systems tab I get 504 time-out errors and the file system doesn't appear. This is a drive that I've been using previously for a few years but suddenly stopped showing up on my server.
The drive itself is spinning up and doesn't make any loud clicking sounds, but it has a white light that is flashing.
I posted here the other day but have an update on the situation.
The server stopped showing up entirely on my computer. I have OMV setup on a raspberry pi 4 Model B. I tried swapping to a different raspberry pi that I own that's the same exact model. I swapped the SD cards in them so the new pi has the old SD card in it.
The server showed up once I switched the devices but now when I try to login to the web GUI I get this error message. Is there something else I need to do with the new raspberry pi to get it to work?

I’ve been testing different services over the past few months because my old one kept buffering during football matches which is honestly the fastest way to ruin a weekend.
Most of the ones I tried had the same problems. Channels randomly disappearing, streams dropping during peak hours or HD channels that looked like they were filmed on a potato.
I randomly came across and decided to give it a shot mainly because the price was reasonable and they had a trial 👉 britishitv .uk
I’ve been using it for a while now and it’s actually been surprisingly stable compared to the others I tried. uk channels load fast, sports streams have been solid so far, and I haven’t had those annoying freezes right when a match gets interesting.
The channel list is pretty big too. I mainly watch UK channels and sports but I noticed they also have a lot of us and international stuff. Movies and series sections are decent as well if you’re into that.
Setup was straightforward. I’m running it on an IPTV app on my Firestick and it worked almost immediately after adding the playlist.
Obviously no service is perfect, but compared to the 4–5 services I tested before, this one has been the most reliable for me so far.

Just sharing in case anyone else is tired of jumping between IPTV providers like I was
Hey all.
I just installed OMV on an ASUS Chromebox, Celeron 2955U, 4GB of RAM. 16GB SSD.
Install went well. Activated the flash memory plug in. Got Docker up and running. Installed NZBget, Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Jellyfin. Spent a while copying over my existing media to two external drives. After some permission issues, everything is talking to each other.
Buuuuut.... Now it is randomly freezing up and either rebooting itself or needs to be physically turned off and on.
CPU utilization ranges from 65%-99%. RAM between 50%-90%.
Temps are below 70°.
OS drive is at about 50% capacity.
Jellyfin isn't being used when it freezes, much less doing any transcoding, because I haven't showed my wife how to use it yet. I want to get it sorted before she starts to rely on it.
Obviously I don't expect you guys to solve this problem with this much information. But can you tell me what to look for/where to look? I looked at the Diagnostic tab in the Dashboard, but there are so many different logs to look through, and when I do look at the sys log (for example) there's so much stuff to scroll through. I have used Raspbian on a Raspberry Pi before, to run Sonarr and NZBget without Docker, but my Linux knowledge is limited.
Thanks for any direction you might be able to provide.
I installed Qbittorrent with docker but after starting the Compose service it refuses to let me in even with the default “admin / adminadmin” credentials… I think it doesn’t create the conf file in the config folder because it’s missing… What should I do?
Built a small server out of a dell 5050 mff sata data drive and m.2 to sata adapter running up to some 500gig laptop drives ( external powered ) and a usp 4tb drive
I was jacking around adding a fan and somehow turned off the external power supply to the drives and should have powered down the system but me a DA didn’t and just powered it back up thinking all was good
Well nope it’s not I now have “ file system” missing on these drives but in good on the usb 4tb … nothing was very important on those drives just a bit of 3d print files I was storing and have them on another usb drive on my main computer so no biggie on that
I was google-fooing and came across some great info about ssh into it and wiping the info or something I really can’t recall something about cat this or cat that ?? And of course can’t find what I was looking at a week ago now I have more time to diagnose it and jack around with it
Anyone have some good write ups on something like this step by step or just go in and reload fresh and start over ? Would be great not have to spend the time wiping mounting and transferring the data back and forth but if I have to I will
Thanks for any help !
