I just finished the book and I’m slightly surprised by the ending. Spoilers below.
I really liked it, but the ending is a bit different from what I expected honestly. Everyone always says Matt writes books with unhappy endings for the characters, but this was a pretty good ending to me. They won for one and they were basically given independence from Earth for two. The whole time Oliver was wearing the helmet I was actually afraid that Roger would decide to take over Oliver’s body as he might have a plan to stop everything himself in a human body or just straight up take over Oliver’s body for himself, but that wouldn’t make sense since he loved the family as confirmed in the very final part of the book. I was kinda expecting something like they won, but at what cost type of thing. Like mostly everyone would die or at least most of the main group and/or community and it’d be like a bittersweet ending. However, this seemed good and I quite enjoyed it.
