r/OutlastOnNetflix

I have too much commentary on the show to even begin, but can i just say it slightly irritates me that Outlast: The Jungle is a whole different show on Netflix than the original Outlast. Why couldn’t it just be season 3?

I just needed to post this somewhere! 😭 Will never understand why netflix does this with some shows.

Season 2 (spoiler for 1, 2 and 3) and rant

I feel like the producers of the show are the worst, honestly.

In season one, there was the sleeping bag theft, not to mention the worst 2 women I've ever seen on a reality show.

The producers allowed for theft of life saving gear.

In season 2, they gave them no sleeping bags.

To spend over a month in Alaska.

They only gave them 2 blankets per team, to share.

The contestants had no idea how to build a shelter that would compensate for the lack of sleeping bags, which clearly didn't help their situation.

I feel like most of the contestants were chosen for their ignorance of survival in those conditions and their toxicity in social settings.

Eventually after a bunch of people flared out, they dropped off 2 sleeping bags per remaining team, the thin, rectangular ones with no hood that are used in summer car camping, are they insane?

The woman contestant towards the end who flared out because she was sick wound up diagnosed with Trench Foot which tells me she never took her boots off even to sleep because she must have been so cold, Trench Foot is something that happened over a hundred years ago in Europe during WW1 to the soldiers in the trenches.

And I really feel like the producers of the show go hardcore into putting the worst people they can find on the show, except for a couple of good people, put them in impossible and potentially dangerous situations and then watch them tear each other apart for fun.

That's not a survival show, it's putting buckets of chum in shark habitats and dropping in people who can't swim, for sport.

I bet you anything the producers are into dog fighting.

Seriously it's disturbing.

I watched Alone, and that's really about survival.

Haven't seen Naked and Afraid because I don't use Amazon or anything connected to Bezos so I'll have to wait until it gets to Netflix, but holy hell, Outlast is one disturbing show that I won't be watching again.

I watched season 3 in the jungle and that cemented my decision.

Season 3 was so fake and edited it was a soap opera with scantily clad people in need for therapy.

The theft of shoes in an environment where the ground is covered with things that can cause foot injuries was also disturbing.

I watched all 3 because I kept hoping it would get better, lol.

I'm not into blood sports.

I do recommend Alone, though, that's a great show and I found it educational.

Which contestant of outlast could win Alone?

Probably NONE of them. Idk if the producers specifically choose people who arent great survivalists, or choose people based on the drama they might bring to the show. But I cant see even one of these people even making it through a 21 day challenge on Naked and Afraid, much less surviving on Alone.

Barely into the second episode of Outlast: The Jungle and oh my god I hate Morgan

She is giving such pick me behaviour, like Abby was being so nice to you and wanted to work together and your reaction was "I don't really have female friendships because they are drama". Misogynistic women make no sense to me, just be a girls girl? This has me mad lol but I'm rooting for Abby

This show is so unbalanced!

The finales for all three seasons have been so incredibly unbalanced where one team gets the insane route and the other team gets the more flat and comfortable walk. Even with the people that have the flat easy walks getting super lost they always catch up even if the other team doesn’t get lost at all because their routes are that much easier.

The Jungle finale where one team had to get in chest deep water for hours and the other team only had to get their legs wet for almost no time at all wasn’t remotely fair.

Season 2 where the Texas bros got to be lost for what seemed like hours only to somehow get back to the river, follow a mostly flat straight path, use a bow drill they’d never used before and win before the other team arrived was so unfairly off balance that I was wanting to scream. Even if mountain man hadn’t taken the shortcut, they had an insane trek leading up to that decision that was made and never had an easy walk as part of their trek.

I’m assuming many of you have watched Naked and Afraid like I have and bow drills aren’t easy for experienced survivalists much less some guys that never picked one up in their lifetimes. They were lost so deep in the woods and didn’t know how to course correct with a compass so I also call BS on them magically going to the river too.

Wes is walking trash

Opinionated , agressive , misogynistic, and probably a drug addict. Never gave a woman a single second to speak her thoughts and continued to act and speak aggressively towards them and anyone who he simply disagreed with. Acted as a leader but never did anything to earn it . I get it’s a game but he’s Truly trash garbage dumpster juice .
(really wanted to root for him as one of the only poc as well but let’s face it guys he sucks.)

I finally watched S1

My dad and I were just flabbergasted the entire time by the sociopathic behavior from Jill and Amber. It’s one thing to be an evil bitch but the way they deluded themselves into thinking they were good people?! 😭

Jill acting like she has SOOOO much respect for wildlife after orchestrating several thefts and leaving ppl to suffer from hypothermia? Amber clearly doesn’t have much going on upstairs, and it tracks that she’s an ex felon. Zero moral compass there. Everytime I saw that smug smile on her face I was disgusted.

If they hadn’t gone the wrong way they might have actually won. I’m so glad it was Jill’s fuck up that likely cost them the prize. I hope it eats her up inside but probably not Amber worships the ground she walks on. It’s not surprising that they became such fast friends. Two evil bitches telling each other “EXACTLYYY”. I will say though, Jill was damned good at what she did. Pained me to see her repeatedly win for her team. Those giant salmon were CRAZY.

As a woman I always want to root for women but those two were evil. I’m so glad the other team won. I was a bit on the fence about Paul though. Charlie never outright did anything to harm other teams but they were in cahoots with Alpha, so… especially Paul, who abandoned his team. However I think he toed the line between despicable behaviour and playing to win, enough for me to not hate him. Besides, he seemed to REEEALLLYY want it for his kids.

…they’ve got to be getting food.

Just finished The Jungle, and am I crazy to think these people are absolutely being given food and water? Theyve lost basically no weight in a month. Charlie camp sleeps all day, but has energy.

Collecting coconuts and mollusks is not keeping this many people fed. I know they got a small amount in their initial box of supplies but…cmon.

Did I miss something?

So.. Buddy vs. Leiya Fire starting has me confused

How difficult is primitive fire starting, truly? She took over a week and couldn’t manage at all. But buddy did it in like thirty seconds after taking over?!!!!! But I noticed he was using binoculars to do so, is that even primitive in method if you’re using advanced technology to start the fire? I’m legitimately confused on the terminology of what makes the methodology primitive but also why Leiya had so many issues in that environment.

I noticed once they went to the beach environment, Buddy immediately was able to start the fire. How much of their lack of fire was truly due to Leiya’s lack of skill set versus the environment? Can anyone experienced hone in?

This may be ageist

But I don’t understand the much older persons deciding to do Outlast in cold ass Alaska (Season 2) 😭 Tonia was 53. A 53 year old body simply does not tolerate stress as well as someone in their 20s-30s. Nor did she herself seem like a 53yo who kept her body in top shape. It just seemed so pointless to me. I know you want the million dollars but can we be realistic?

Maybe I’m biased because I watched The Jungle first. Everyone there was clearly physically fit/younger and it was still hard on them.

A total lack of humanity.

I’m so glad I watched Season 2 first, because if I had started with Season 1, I would have dropped the series immediately. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the first season. I skipped straight to the finale just to ensure the villains didn't win.

The lack of humanity displayed by Team Alpha was disgusting. Those two women were manipulative, toxic, and pure drama. I honestly don't know how they look their family and friends in the eye after showing that side of themselves on television, especially as new viewers continue to discover the show.

I really wish Team Charlie had realized what they did to Javier, who was ruthlessly bullied by Alpha. What’s wild to me is the double standard, Team Charlie was completely willing to take Jill despite her toxic attitude, yet they rejected Justin the second he sabotaged Alpha's camp. He was literally just giving them a taste of their own medicine after what they did to Javier and Team Delta. They deserved that payback a million times over.
