Pixel 4a 5G randomly plays a siren sound, freezes/reboots, YouTube causes heavy lag, possible hardware issue?
Hi everyone.
I have a Google Pixel 4a 5G and recently it started acting very strangely.
Main problems:
Random freezes and reboots
Once it suddenly played a loud siren/SOS-like sound by itself and rebooted
Sometimes the whole phone becomes extremely laggy while watching YouTube
The video itself can continue playing smoothly, but the UI/system lags heavily
Occasionally the phone freezes completely and reboots
I also received overheating warnings while recording 4K60 video, even though the phone only felt slightly warm
Some extra details:
The issue happens mostly during YouTube/video playback
Some videos work fine, some cause lags If I pause the video, the phone becomes smooth again
In Safe Mode the problem still happened
I tried disabling HW overlays in Developer Options, but it did not really help
I already generated a bugreport
No obvious battery swelling or severe external overheating
Android version: UP1A.231105.001.B2
I’m trying to understand whether this is:
a motherboard issue,
failing storage/RAM,
GPU/video decoder issue,
thermal problem,
or some Android/software corruption.
Has anyone experienced something similar on the Pixel 4a 5G?
Also:
Is a factory reset worth trying at this point?
Could this be caused by hardware degradation?
Is there anything important I should back up immediately before the phone potentially dies completely?
Any help would be appreciated.
