My first IMAX experience. Odyssey

I saw in IMAX 2d why is so that theatre did not satisfy my expectations. In india theatres are shitty even a premium format like imax is meh👎 , the flaws i found brightness was low ( the brightness i saw on my phone was not there) sharpness image seems out of focus they did not calibrated the projection system for a very long time guess, it was focus okaish

(Kaam chalaw) Not pixel perfect.(Apart from film has some focus issue itself).

Next what do you call screening/ fringing effect rainbow/RGB like effect on white subtitles.

Last on the upper left & right side of screen it seemed dust like appearance a fog like appearance. Plus two middle line at the center.

Sound was amazing btw it was too loud, bass 😘 in thunder scenes it feels like sky has burst open (ऐसा लगता छत फट गया)

Venue - IMAX Rajouri garden inox vishal mall.

How to check before booking if the presentation has subtitles

Thought I’d share how to check whether the regional/Hollywood films you wish to watch have subtitles or not.

A simple and most reliable way [More reliable than BMS/District App] is to visit the PVR website/app and look for the Caption icon.

https://preview.redd.it/aqnueucco4kh1.png?width=288&format=png&auto=webp&s=aa9c3b3933b4bd93f8ac3e07c5b415eaa76b8078

https://preview.redd.it/6bjsxoneo4kh1.png?width=860&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab64a767d1061b0cf0352829c2fe96b88f662d7b

This is one of the most accurate indicators, and if the icon is present, the show will 99% of the time have subtitles.

The wonderful thing is that if PVR is playing the movie with captions, the majority of other cinema chains will too. So you can be relaxed knowing that your local Miraj, Cinemax, Rajhans, etc. would most likely play the movie with subtitles too.

Bangalore seems to be getting new IMAX soon

Hey Guys,

I was just researching for upcoming IMAX properties in India and seems we have a brand new IMAX coming in Bangalore real soon.

Brigade Utopia seems to be getting 6 screen multiplex with an IMAX screen according to the contractor listing, let's hope it is using 4K laser projectors and is one of the large screens.

I’ve watched The Odyssey in 5 different formats — here’s how I’d rank them

I’m A/V Geek, travel from Mumbai India to London UK to experience 5 different formats.
After watching The Odyssey in 5 different formats, I finally have a pretty good idea of how much the presentation changes the experience.
My ranking is based purely on my personal experience of picture, immersion, colour, dynamic range and sound — not simply on which format is technically “superior.”

🥇 1. IMAX 70mm (BFI IMAX) — the best overall experience
Immersion: 10/10
Picture: 10/10
Colour: 9.5/10
Dynamic range: 9.5/10
Sound: 8/10
This is still the king for me.
The 1.43:1 IMAX presentation completely changes the scale of the movie. The image fills so much more of your field of view that it genuinely feels like you’re inside the film rather than watching a gigantic screen.
The 15/70 film presentation has an incredible organic sharpness and texture. Colours look very natural and the image has that unmistakable large-format-film character.
My only criticism is the sound. It wasn’t bad at all, but compared with some of the premium digital systems I’ve experienced, I found the audio less impressive than the picture.
Overall: 10/10

🥈 2. Dolby Cinema — best digital presentation
Immersion: 8.5/10
Picture: 10/10
Colour: 10/10
Dynamic range: 10/10
Sound: 9.5/10
This was probably the most impressive digital presentation I’ve seen.
The contrast, blacks, highlights and colour volume are fantastic. Dark scenes in particular look incredible.
The main disadvantage is the framing. Depending on the Dolby auditorium, you’re watching the film in a flatter or wider presentation rather than the full 1.43:1 IMAX frame, so you don’t get the same vertical immersion as IMAX 70mm.
And one correction to something I’ve seen repeated online: The Odyssey does not have a native Dolby Atmos mix. Nolan’s theatrical soundtrack is based around a 5.1 mix, even when the film is presented in a Dolby Cinema auditorium.
So for me, Dolby wins on digital picture quality, not because it has an Atmos mix.
Overall: 9.5/10

🥉 3. Standard 35mm film (Barbican)
Immersion: 8/10
Picture: 8/10
Colour: 8/10
Dynamic range: 7.5/10
Sound: 8/10
Still a great experience, but once you’ve seen the full 1.43:1 IMAX 70mm presentation, the difference is obvious.
The wider framing makes the movie feel less enormous and you lose that incredible vertical IMAX composition.
It’s still film, and there’s something special about seeing The Odyssey projected from a physical film print, but for this particular movie I think the format sacrifices too much of what makes the IMAX presentation special.
Overall: 8/10

4. Vue EPIC — surprisingly beautiful
Immersion: 8/10
Picture: 9/10
Colour: 9.5/10
Dynamic range: 9.5/10
Sound: 7.5/10
This one surprised me.
The colour and dynamic range were excellent. In some scenes I actually preferred the look to standard digital IMAX.
It doesn’t have the sheer physical immersion of IMAX 70mm, and the audio wasn’t as impressive as the best IMAX/Dolby auditorium I’ve experienced, but visually it was a very pleasing presentation.
If someone told me they couldn’t get to an IMAX 70mm screening, I’d absolutely recommend trying a good EPIC auditorium rather than just going to the nearest standard screen.
Overall: 8.5/10

5. IMAX Digital — good sound, disappointing picture
Immersion: 7.5/10
Picture: 6.5/10
Colour: 7/10
Dynamic range: 7/10
Sound: 9/10
This was probably my least favourite presentation.
The large IMAX screen still gives you that sense of scale, and the 12-channel IMAX sound system can be seriously impressive.
But compared with the 70mm film presentation and Dolby’s digital projection, I found the picture noticeably less impressive — particularly in terms of sharpness, contrast and overall image quality.
The funny thing is that the sound was one of its strongest points.
Overall: 7/10

Curious to hear what’s your ranking?

Spiderman BND in PXL

Hey guys, so after almost 1.5 weeks of juggling my choices among PXL, ONYX and screenX, I finally landed on PXL yesterday. I watched it Unity One mall pvr at rohini, Delhi.
My show was in 3D but being a specs guy i really dont enjoy glasses on glasses😭 but to my surprise this movie in 3d was good! Had a fun time in 3D during the action and swinging scenes those are cool! And since PXL displays a 1.90:1 ratio, the picture was shown as it would be shown in imax and i love imax!! So this was a fun experience bigger the screen the bigger your fun lol.

For me big screens are fun and it was good to finally watch a decent superhero movie.

If interested yall can check out my review of the movie on LetterBoxd- https://boxd.it/fOdTwn

Watched Spiderman:BND in Screen x at Inox Inorbit Mall,Malad,Mumbai.

This was my second time watching this movie. First, I saw it at PXL Goregaon, then in ScreenX 3d and I would prefer ScreenX over Goregaon, even though I enjoyed PXL a lot too. I sat at E 13 and the view was good from there, not too back nor too front. Many people say ScreenX is a gimmick. I think that maybe it would be true for other movies, but not this one, as it was shot specially for ScreenX. It had 70–80% of the scenes in ScreenX, unlike other movies, which only have a few scenes and the side screens are off for most of the time.

The side screen might be less bright, but trust me, you won't notice it while watching because your attention is fixated on the main screen. The side screens are only for peripheral vision and not the main content, and they serve their purpose well, which is giving the immersive experience. In fact, I feel it would have been distracting from the main screen if the side screens were brighter.

Its screen quality and image quality are lower than that of PXL Goregaon, but I think it's overall better, as this movie is meant for ScreenX and it actually has the side screens projected for most of the time, and the main screen is quite big too, IMO. So, it's a good trade-off, IMO, for a movie specially made for ScreenX and when IMAX is also not available.

Also, the prices have reduced a lot now, so I think it's definitely worth it to watch it in ScreenX, because God knows when the next "shot for ScreenX" movie will come, if at all. So, I would definitely recommend experiencing ScreenX once.

The Odyssey — PVR Priya IMAX vs PVR Cinemagic PXL: My experience after watching it in both

The Odyssey

I watched The Odyssey at both PVR Priya IMAX and PVR Cinemagic PXL. Both were excellent, but I noticed some interesting differences.

Screen:

Both looked fantastic. Priya was a little brighter, and the dark scenes looked especially good.

Priya IMAX: 9.5/10

PXL: 8.5/10

Sound:

This is where Priya stood out for me. The sound had excellent depth and separation. In scenes with swords moving or arrows/bows being thrown, you could clearly tell where the sound was coming from. It felt very precise and immersive.

Sound separation:

Priya — 10/10

PXL — 8/10

Dialogue was also louder and clearer at Priya. PXL was still very good, but slightly lower in dialogue volume.

Bass:

Surprisingly, PXL wins this one for me.

The bass had much more punch and physical impact. During the heavy bass moments, you could actually feel the vibration. It was almost earth-shaking.

Bass:

Priya — 9/10

PXL — 10/10

What surprised me is that I expected Priya IMAX to have the stronger overall sound experience, especially with the bass, but PXL actually delivered the harder-hitting low end.

Also, as far as I understand, the non-IMAX DCP is 5.1 rather than Atmos, which makes the PXL bass performance even more interesting.

Both have very comfortable seats, and PXL in 2D is genuinely an amazing experience.

Overall for me:

🏆 Priya IMAX — 9.5/10

PXL — 8.5/10

Priya wins overall because of the sound depth, separation and dialogue clarity. But if you're looking specifically for bass impact, PXL surprised me big time.

Has anyone else watched The Odyssey at both? Curious if you noticed the same difference in bass.

Does anyone know if PVR at Elegante Mall, NSP is accepting gift cards?

Also, can multiple gift cards be used together in a single transaction offline? For example, if I have 2–3 gift cards, can I combine their balances to pay for one booking?

What’s this?

PVR Priya - IMAX

Maybe the lights behind the screen ?

They were slightly visible during the bright screens.

Spider-Man Brand New Day in AMB Dolby Cinema, Bengaluru

Man what an experience! The visuals were brilliant, complemented by sound that hits you hard with a wonderfully tuned Atmos effect. My second visit into this venue and I'm pretty convinced that I might reduce IMAX visits especially for films with mastered scope DCPs. The IMAX close to it is pretty shit in comparison(Mantri IMAX). No 3D due to H4D3 being non compatible with it but ngl Dolby Vision more than compensated for it. Way better than having a dull, dim 3D.

Spiderman brand new day PLF (premium Large Format) Experience

Hello guys now it has been more than a week and most of the fans has seen the movie in their respective theatres of their choice in different formats. So, i think its a good time to discuss about different formats and the experience in which you`ve seen the movie. I want everyone to share name of their respective format, cinema, location and little bit about the experience.

Mine is Pvr pxl cinemagic nsp- All over it was a pretty average experience whether it comes to sound, picture quality, 3D, projection and seating comfort. Not worth the hype but it is the only theatre with 1:85:1 flat screen available in delhi-ncr.

this will also help us all to choose correct theatre and format for avengers doomsday.

The Odyssey in HDR by BARCO 😍

Watched The Odyssey in the Barco HDR format (Prasads Screen 4) and holy shit, what an experience. The image clarity was absolutely spectacular. The level of detail, sharpness and HDR contrast made everything look incredibly immersive on the big screen. But honestly, the audio was just as impressive. The clarity of the sound, the surround experience, and especially the deep, powerful bass during the big sequences were insane. It genuinely felt like the kind of movie that was made to be experienced in a proper cinema rather than watched at some random theater. Easily one of the most impressive theatrical experiences I’ve had.

The odyssey

Watched odyssey at imax logix , the biggest possible screen and the experience was amazing. Middle rows fill fov completely and give an immersive experience. Audio quality was also good. Wanted to watch it in priya imax but tickets are almost 8-900 there ( logix- 425)
