SACD Pressing

Curious to know if anyone has experience with the manufacturing side of SACD's? I know of Sonopress Germany and Sony DADC as far as plants still producing SACD's. Am i missing any or is it really down to just those last two?

Also if anyone DOES have experience, what was the pricing structure like? Minimum order amounts?

Curious because i run a small record label and I'm curious about reaching in to SACD as a format to put music on.

BMG Music Club sold SACDs?

I just found this sealed in the Used - New Arrivals bin. I never knew that you could buy SACD titles through BMG Music Club?

DIY Extractor + DAC for SACD using I-Sabre ES9038Q2M via I2S

I am really and truely down the rabbit hole, and i apologise in advance if this has been covered repeatidly. Feel free to downvote me if im off base here!!!

It seems to me that 2 DIY Boards, powered by 5V USB, could act as a Native DSD capable DAC - which could be used perfectly with a Sony BluRay or Universal Disk player.

  • Board one is the standard 'Audio extractor HDMI / MHL to I2S / Coaxial / Optical' from audiophonics
  • Board two is a DIY Raspeberry pi Dac, based on the DSD Capable ES9038Q2M

Both powered by USB C, so power is easily managed. The audio bridge would connect the Extractors I2S Output pins - to the I2S Input Pins on the DAC board. (still working this out but at least four connections would be needed - Ground, Bit CLock, Data, Left Right Clock)

The Player would have to be set to DSD ON, or BIT-STREAM - the extractor does its thing, seperating the DSD and outputting it to the board, which decodes to analogue. Game, set, match?

Really am waiting for the other shoe to fall here -

Love to get some feedback - has anyone attempted this?

I am beyond happy that SACD is still alive in 2026

I’ve been out of SACD’s for a while just cuz there wasn’t much releasing but one of my favorite albums ever, STP’s Purple finally came out and now this. AND Devo’s debut! Mofi if you’re listening PLEASE keep releasing 70’s punk and I will be your customer forever I will never run out of stuff to buy from you.

Picked this up from Cash Converters - Arcam CDS27 for £120

I had a Fiio DM15 R2R but had issues, so returned it and found this SACD player at Cash Converters (Used store) for £120. Only have 1 SACD (Dark side of the moon) so far in my collection, sounds great.

SACD playback via HDMI Extractor for PCM 24bit

Been going down the rabbit hole, and wanted to ask for some advice. I like my current stack which includes a Fosi Audio ZD3 for digital decoding. I have played DSDs via a USB connected PC (linux running Cantata with the appropriate settings - the ZD3 detects and signals that its decoding DSD64) - sounds great i have zero complaints

But i have an itch, as i do have a BluRay player that supports SACD - from what i can see, i cannot connect this to my dac, and the player does not have analogue out. I know about the DOP adapters and how expensive they can be. My question is about PCM conversion in the player and then extracting the PCM out via coax digital.

If i set the SONY BD to DSD OFF, and PCM as output (2ch only, so downmixing 5.1). And then used a reasonable HDMI Extractor, to take the PCM and send it to my ZD3 via coax (or optical) - My amateur assumption is, this would work?

  • i would get a higher resolution output into my DAC
  • It would surpass CD playback quality levels
  • It would have all the benefits of DAC transport playback
  • No, it would not be TRUE DSD level audio quality, but it would be higher quality than basic CD Redbook

I guess what i am asking is - does this workaround seem sensible? Its not DOP, and therefore not pure SACD playback - but it would allow me to play the SACDs at a high level of quality (24bit PCM up to 88/176khz)

Thanks in advance - if this has been discussed previously, can you share a link, because everywhere i go, i see much talk of DOP, but not this specific workaround!

Y'all are a bad influence.

So after my mini SACD adventure of a couple of months ago, of trying to get an SACD to play properly on my Sony SACD changer, only to find out that even when it worked, I was only able to get stereo out, I stalled for a little while.

Plan was to pick up a 4K player in the future and actually get surround out of the disc.

Well, today's thrift trip landed a well used but functioning Sony BX510, bluray with SACD capabilities. A quick Google to ensure that my Yamaha receiver could decode DSD and $10 later I've got a fully functional SACD surround solution.

Of course, the kicker is that only 1 of my 2 SACDs is multi channel.

This $10 player is going to cost me a fortune.

Sacd rabbit hole

So I have Sony sacd dvd player and a marantz 40n amp it has a hdmi input but it seems no marantz amps accept dsd over hdmi, I currently have it working via the tv arc input but the tv limits output to 48khz ( I don’t have earc on my tv and I’m not sure that would make a difference) I have tried bypassing the tv using pcm and bitstream conversion but the 40n never accepts the signal directly from the sacd player via hdmi.
I was considering buying the marantz 70s stereo amp but read it also won’t accept dsd over HDMI either !!
Does anyone know what configuration might work to get the best possible sound quality to the amp.
Thanks
