Confused about BoligØen student housing offers: What does "svar på tilbud er bindende" actually mean when my rank is 45+?

I’m an international student and I just received 17 student housing offers in Odense through BoligØen (managed by Bosera). I'm a bit overwhelmed and quite confused about how the system works, so I would really appreciate some clarity from anyone who has used it before.

Here is my situation and my main concerns:

  1. The "Binding" rule vs. My Rank: On my online portal, there is a big warning: "Vi gør opmærksom på at svar på tilbud er bindende" (Replies to offers are binding). However, for the apartments I actually like, my rank on the waiting list is number 45 and number 54. What does "binding" mean in this context? If I click "JA", am I legally bound to take the apartment only if those 44/53 people ahead of me decline and I actually get it? Or am I committing to something else just by clicking "JA"?

  2. Can I say "JA" to multiple offers? Since my rank is quite low (45 and 54), I want to increase my chances. Can I reply "JA" to both of these apartments at the same time? If by some miracle both groups of people decline and I end up first on both lists, what happens then? Do I get penalized?

  3. Can I change my mind before the deadline? If I click "JA" today, but change my mind tomorrow (before the official reply deadline, which is May 20th and 21st), allows the system to change the answer back to "NEJ"?

  4. Declining offers: The letter says "Der er ikke et loft for, hvor mange Studiebolig tilbud, du kan få" (no limit on student offers). If I click "NEJ" to the other 15 apartments I don't want, will it negatively affect my profile or my position on the general waiting list for future offers? (I will make sure to check the "Jeg ønsker ikke at foretage nogen ændringer" option so it doesn't delete my preferences).

  5. 0 DKK Utilities: On one offer (Gammavej 615), the monthly estimates for water (a/c Vand) and electricity (a/c El) are listed as 0.00 DKK. Does this usually mean it's included in the rent, or that I have to set up my own contract with an external provider from day one?

My first deadline is tomorrow (May 20th), so I’m a bit stressed. Any advice or experiences with BoligØen/Bosera would be amazing. Thank you so much!

Student life

Hey, I would like to know what the student/social life is at SDU. Lively or will I get bored by the lack of activities? Also, is it hard to make friends? Thanks!

DTU (BSc General Engineering) vs. SDU (BEng Mechanical Engineering) – Need advice on choosing!

Hi everyone,

I’m facing a major dilemma regarding my university choice in Denmark and could really use some insights from current students or alumni.

I’ve been looking into two options:

  1. DTU: BSc in General Engineering
  2. SDU: BEng in Mechanical Engineering

On one hand, DTU is a world-class technical university with massive prestige, great networking, and a huge campus. However, the General Engineering program gives a BSc (academic bachelor), meaning I’d pretty much have to commit to a 2-year Master’s degree afterwards to get proper engineering credentials and specialized jobs.

On the other hand, SDU offers a BEng in Mechanical Engineering. It's 3.5 years, includes a mandatory internship, and makes me a fully qualified Mechanical Engineer ready for the job market right after graduation. SDU is great, but obviously doesn't have the same global ranking/prestige as DTU.

I lean towards mechanical engineering, but the reputation of DTU are hard to ignore.

For those who studied either:

  • Is the DTU name worth doing a 5-year track (3+2) instead of the quick 3.5-year route at SDU?
  • How is the student life and housing situation comparing Lyngby/Copenhagen to Odense/Sønderborg?
  • If you did General Engineering at DTU, did you feel well-prepared for a mechanical/structural Master's?

Would love to hear your pros and cons. Thanks in advance!

Ms in Engineering Physics: so many oral exams?

I was checking out what subjects one has to take during this program and a vast majority seem to end in an oral exam (at least according to course descriptions). Is it true? Are they actual oral exams that determine your final grade? Or just one/a few simple questions regarding something done during the course, like homework, reports, lab work etc.?

I have found that in other universities I considered most subjects end in a written exam, so I was surprised.

Unfortunately I was not born with the ability to nonsense my way through an exam and therefore hate orals. The exam type is a major factor for me when choosing the university.

Worth going to SDU?

Hello guys!
I am an EU citizen, from Portugal, who was recently accepted on the Master's in Mechanical Engineering - Solid Mechanics and Materials (Sønderborg).
I have some questions that hope someone could answer:
1 - I would like to have a part-time job so I can be more independent and don't make my parents paying for everything. I have eard that is really though to get a job in Sondenborg but I would like to know how hard is it. Does it take years to find one?
2 - I have also applied for the same master's in AAU but my addmission was rejected. So, do you think it is a better opnion to be working in my country for this year and try to apply to AAU again or should I go now to SDU?
3 - How is the student environment?

Thx guys.
