I just got into Samurai Champloo, do you all think it’s worth playing the PS2 game?
I'm not sure if I should just use India ink to outline it, if I should color it in, or if I should just leave it as is... Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to share them.
For me the appeal of Samurai Champloo is its mixture of grittiness, atmosphere and comedy. The idea of a beatboxing samurai hitting on woman in Japans Edo period sounds fuckin nuts, but the way the creators implemented it, it make you believe It M A Y of actually happened. The threat of death is still there will also having well paced jokes and awesome fight scenes. Compare all of that to the manga and you see why Id think it doesnt compare. Dont get me wrong the art is good, but everything else drags it down.
First things first, the writer LOVES putting tiny pieces of dialogue that add absolutley nothing to the story. It would be fine it wasn't done EVERY PANEL. The Panel I just posted has 3 of them already, just imagine that x 236 pages. The art conveys the emotion enough do we really need to cram in shit like this. To really get my point across heres an example Im making up. A samurai mouth wide open shaking saying "I-I... will take you d-down". and right next to his face theres a 2 inch size text saying "I'm so fucking scared!". WE COULD TELL SCREWW YOU AND YOUR MANY DESCREPTORS!!
Second off, the half assed attempt of "champloo" they do in the manga. The original show ws called samurai champloo is cause of the various things that where chopped up/mixed. From the songs to Mugens fighting style it really represents why it was given the name. Now obviously you cant include music in the manga, and there aren't that many fights to draw so how do they chop it up? Half assed references to modern day events. If they were to use it in a more unique way then it be fine but the use it like their just trying to check a box. Imagine this:
Mugen locked into a fierce battle with a hitman gets knocked back into a tree by one of the hit mans punches. Mugen looks the hitman dead in the eyes and says "Heh, not bad. Your punch is almost as powerful as little mac from punch-out". The panel cuts to the Hitman looking confused and a 2 milliliter small caption says "What the heck is a punch out" and then he gets socked in the face. It reads like a family guy cutaway, its only purpose is to piss me off.
Finally, Id like to make a comparison to the anime to really get my point across. Both material have a story that features ninjas, is a comedy episode while also having a big fight at the end. In the anime the episode covers all 3 of my favorite aspects from the series. The torture methods that other group used, the pedelling of fake gold, and seriously kickass fight scenes brought some real grittiness to the story. Chubby Fuu, Mugen wanting booty, and That jin bit with the prostitute brought comedy into the mix. And add Some Nujabes, Fat Jon, Force of Nature soundtracks into the mix, as well as the night time setting and you got 10/10 SC right there.
Compare that too the manga. Im going offa memory so I mighhht get some details wrong. You got Mugen becoming friends with some sort of lord. The lord is also being protected by a bunch of ninjas, who also wanted to off mugen cause he was trouble. Of course you gotta have the ninja that wants to be "The king of all Ninjas" (deadass almost made me drop the book). The ninjas set up some basic ass traps that fail. Then some of them try jumping mugen then they all die. Dont worry its not tragic or anything, no revenge quest, no real concern, not even a bit showing how grim these ninjas can be since they dont even mourn their own comrades. The two eventually make their way to a bar and get super drunk. The ninjas say "Fuck it" and try jumping mugen but the Lord is so drunk he starts killing his own people. Eventually Mugen kills the Lord on accident, one of the ninjas is revealed to be a girl, and she runsoff with her master- er something like that. I dont remember much of the story but what I do remember is that comedy was mid, felt like it could have taken place ANYWHERE not just in Japan, and 0 atmosphere cause most of the bg's were just white basic tree and wood pictures. Also the lord looked like he was straight out of naruto. Cool design but just waisted. 2/10 SC right there
In the grand scheme of things all im trying to say is, It reads like a shonen manga with Mugen, Jin, and Fuu just shoved into the story. Put this on the front page of V Jump with the main characters Migi, Jigi, and Figi, call it Samurai Chumps, and it would probably be a 7/10. But associating this manga with THE Samurai Champloo Anime was a step too far for me. 8/10 art. 4/10 writing. 0/10 Champloo
I know I know I'm not that good but... I had this idea the second I saw this game. Finally got my hands on it after waiting for it before it launched & I gotta say I'm having a blast. It's the closest thing I've played to Samurai Champloo or similar Anime like Cowboy Bebop - Gunslinger - esque action!
I'm looking for more clothes to look like Mugen, I know they have them, but this is an RnG game so that's also a little tough.

Old news. Previous reddit posts from years back not my pos, but came a across something similar. Found several copies of Film Manga Volume #1 by Bandai Entertainment, online tells me at least 3 Volumes were ever produced and then the Film Manga which used screenshots from the anime to produce a Manga adaptation different from the others 2 volume series most fans are familiar with.
I found it a fun game with enjoyable gameplay and good graphics, more like a ''missing episode'' of the anime.
Not sure where I got it from. San Diego Comic-Con maybe?
Samurai Champloo is one of my favorite animes ever, I would love it to get a collab with Overwatch.
Jin is just so fucking nonchalantly majestic
I watched Samurai Champloo over twenty years ago and I loved it. I loved Cowboy Bebop more, but this was still a great series. However, I remember hating the ending; it felt weird, I didn't get it, and I felt it was such a 'nothing' note to end on. Then, about five years ago, I randomly heard the ending song play. I had forgotten where it was from, but I couldn't help but tear up. I didn't even know why; I just felt nostalgic for all the things and people I’d left behind. It was strange until I remembered where the song was from, and then it suddenly clicked: the ending was meant to make me feel that nostalgia, but it also made me realize that sometimes you just have to say goodbye.Today, I heard the song again in a random anime playlist. It made me think—I don't know if it's just the song or the ending too—but I just wanted to post this random tidbit.
Anyone else listen to this curated track list of the unreleased tracks? I didn't know it was out there til I went looking for any and all Champloo music.
Hello everyone.
2 years ago I made post with a link to a Google Drive folder containing all 26 episodes dubbed in english. I’ve decided to take it down in about 24h.
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up so that you can take a look while it’s still hot 👀
Here’s the original post:

Wish y’all a great day and hope you enjoy 🌻
I feel like there were a bunch of times it could have been useful but he never once uses it after learning.. fits well with his unpredictable fighting style too.
Thoughts?
Just finished samurai champloo and I feel like the ending is not satisfying and empty I know some people saying the ending is good cause mugen and jin completed there task to escort fuu to her father now they are free but I just want some future glimpses of what happen to all 3 of them like
After separation mugen wandere around and eventually meet yatsuha where she confess her love. I know some people ship mugenXfuu cause anime sometimes shows that fuu have feelings for mugen but in next episode they become normal again so they more like good friends fuu cares too much about mugen cause of his nature.
After separation jin goes back to his dojo where he confront all his masters other students that hold grudges against him for killing his master and tell them how he's being forced to kill his own master cause of Kagetoki Kariya and after 2-3 years jin will go back to widow house to pick up shino and lived happily after that.
When it comes to fuu there's some things that could happen is
2 Continues her fathers rebelion idk about this one.
3 After wandering around she find a waitress job like from the start and where she encounter with some men and gets settle down.
(At first mugen and jin are the wanderes that they don't have anywhere to go but in the end she become the one who doesn't know what to do and where to go)
And after 20-30 years those 3 will meet again and talk about there journey after separation.
Some people saying separation is bad but they have to understand that mugen and jin are just outcast that doesn't have anyone to love Or care and they find what it likes to have friends and what feels likes to be loved
(This is just my opinion) so dont take it seriously
