Am I stupid for thinking Santeria will cure my health issues

Like I need help and doctors won’t help or can’t help I guess. I have a babalawo and I like him he’s cool and I trust him but I’m scared to move forward with services. I feel like I’m asking for too much. I’m just worried idk. I just want my health back and life back.

Is this a Santeria practice?

I apologize if this is an ignorant question, I don’t know much about Santeria but I believe my mother in law is secretly practicing. She keeps these herbs hidden around her house in satchels and in Starbucks cups. It’s known she doesn’t want my fiancé to move out her house and he ALWAYS has random financial issues (getting car broken into, car accidents, theft, etc). And he constantly has nightmares and jumps in his sleep. Is this a sign of any practice?

Receiving Collares Before Knowing Your Head Orisha?

Bendiciones!

Out of curiosity, here’s a hypothetical scenario: If someone receives their collares before being crowned, would they already know who their head Orisha is at that point? Or do some Ocha houses give collares without determining the person’s head Orisha first?

I was always under the impression that you wouldn’t definitively know your head Orisha until going through the KariOcha ceremony, but I’m curious if that varies by house or tradition.

Thanks!

English:

Hello everyone. I have recently begun learning about Orunmila and the Ifá tradition, and I would like to approach this path with full respect.

I am looking for guidance on how to properly take my first steps. My main goal right now is to schedule an initial consultation (divination) with a serious and reputable Babalawo (either Lucumí or Isese), whether locally or via distance reading.

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for legitimate lineages, reputable elders, or advice for someone starting from scratch. Thank you for your time and help.

Egun

Bendiciones everyone,
Quick question for our community.
Once someone gets Mano de Orula, can they pretty much anyone receive Egun tile? Or is that something that only comes up if it specifically marks in an Odu during a consulta/ita?
Second part to my question… what’s the actual difference in practice between working with Egun vs Egungun? I know Egun is the ancestors, but I get a little confused on where Egungun fits into Lukumí vs Ifá practices and whether that’s a totally separate thing/society.
Trying to make sure I’m understanding how ancestor veneration works as I learn more. Thanks in advance for any insights! Ashe.

Handmade crowns

Hello all, bendiciones!!
Thought I’d ask here since I don’t have many people to ask IRL. What base is used when making crowns for orishas? Whether it’s a crown for a persons head (to wear), or one to sit on a sopera, what material is usually used? I’m supposed to make two crowns (one for each godparent) and I know how to sew and do beadwork designs but I really don’t know what to use to put the fabric onto and I don’t have anybody that I can ask. Also, when you have a base, is the fabric glued down onto it or sewn in? I’m really just at my wits end here 🤣. Thank you in advance to anybody willing to help me out 🙏🏽

Can santeria free me from evil entities?

It's been a long time and they harass me. They cause me suffering, fear, and terror. They are very dark and powerful.

It is real. I'm not crazy. (But I do see a psychiatrist since probably people will try to go In that direction). (Also check psychiatrist Jerry Marzinsky on YouTube and his work regarding schizophrenia and entities.)

Can santeria help me? Make them go away for once and forever. This is hell 24/7.

I hope you are well. 🙏

Santeria and Eastern Orthodoxy

Hey there, everyone!

I'm new here, but not new to Santeria -- I've been an aborisha for 18 years as of this month. Lately, I've been doing a deep dive into our faith, including the theology. Like many creyentes, I was baptized Roman Catholic, so that was already there when I was initiated. And Jesus (Olofi) is still important to me (even though I admit to not being a very good disciple much of the time). But I've noticed, in particular recently since starting this deep dive, that a lot of Lucumi theology is much closer to that of Eastern Orthodoxy than Roman Catholicism, especially when it comes to the nature of the Triune Godhead (Olodumare, Olofi, Olorun), human nature, creation, humanity's relationship to the Divine...indeed just about everything, from what I can tell.

Having said all of that, here is my question: have any of you made the same discovery, re: Lucumi theology and Eastern Orthodox theology? Have any of you, or anyone you know, started to or are incorporating elements of Eastern Orthodox theology or practice into your own theology or practice (e.g., veneration of icons)? Is syncretizing with Eastern Orthodoxy instead of Roman Catholicism acceptable (my madrina seems to have no problems with it)? I just recently created an Eastern Orthodox-style icon of San Lazaro (Babalu-Ayé) with help from ChatGPT, and gave a copy of it to my madrina, and both she and her youngest son (also an aborisha) both loved it. I also sent copies to two of her daughters who are aborishas too, but have not heard back from them yet. (I've taken the liberty of including a copy of it with this post so everyone can see exactly what I'm talking about here.) Anyway, I look forward to hearing your answers!

Vulnerability re: my practice / nonstop struggle since rayamiento

I received my elekes in 2021 with my madrina and things immediatly started changing in my life, I've gone through a lot and have had so many ups and downs but my faith in Oricha got me through. It was coming up in Misa and in dilogun that I should get scratched and in 2023 my madrina took me to cuba to get my baja del santo and to do my rayamiento. I found Elegua had my head which makes sense but since then my life, the last 3 years and counting have been complete chaos, housing instability, moving over 15 times, things getting stolen from me, getting arrested for something I didn't do, my health has gotten bad, things breaking over and over again. I try my best to adhere to my ewes in my readings but I just feel cursed. It doesn't come up that I am in readings but life has just been so difficult. So difficult to the point thats leaving my questioning my own faith bc why would they allow this to happen to me. I recieved my Olokun last September in Cuba and it was a really beautiful ceremony but things just kept getting bad. I try to talk to my madrina but shes been a bit out of commision. I just feel lost and feel like im losing faith. i dont want to suffer and struggle anymore.

Crowning nerves

Hey guys!

I'll be making ocha in a little over a week. I just started getting more nervous then excited it seems. But im also thinking about it all the time :) We're doing my last misa this weekend to make sure everything's going right and solid.

Does anyone have some advice on how to prepare for it, during and after everything done and I start my year in white ie. Things someone may need that most people wouldnt think of, tricks of the trade so to speak. I talk to my padrino almost daily. Perks of being friends for yrs at this point. I'd love to hear some outside view.

Thank you in advance.

Question about Converting

So I decided to hop on here because a couple years ago my cousin began dating a girl who was born into the Santeria religion and as the relationship progressed, he cut contact with our family. Shortly after, he married her and since then he has continued to ignore us. We recently learned that in order to marry her he had to convert. We have begun to question if the no contact has anything to do with his conversion. Honestly, we’re kind of lost since we do not know much about this religion and would appreciate any insight you guys could give us.

Needing to switch houses.

I think its finally time i throw myself out there. I need a new house. Something is wrong with my current house. Ive already received mano de orula, but after my initiation, I feel like I've lost everything. My abilities, my ancestors, and my protection. Something is wrong. My entire house wont help me. Ive begged for help numerous times. I cant even feel my santos like I used to when I first got them. Something is wrong and I need someone who can see that and help me. Even if you aren't in Colorado, maybe we can figure something out. I just desperately need help.
