Well I need y'alls help again choosing my scheme
I'm going to post 5 pics starting with my earliest attempt
I'd love any constructive advice :)

Sorry for the spam Beothers, I'm just hyped not to be painting blue 😄

I primed matte black (I didn't really how much better it is to paint on a matte finish!)

Did a 50/50 mix of proacryls pink and magenta

As my airbrush is buggered I attempted to do the volumetric highlights by dry brushing tamiya white.

Then a layer of Imp Fist contrast then edged it with 50/50 mix of valejos Ice yellow and Demonic yellow

The chest was then given a coat of proacryls rich gold followed by trusty old Riekland flesh

I'm going for Battlefield ready not parade ready, so just imagine him 3-4ft away lol

Finally finished my entry! Hope you like it

As the title states this is what I consider to be my best work yet when it comes to kitbashing/converting. I needed a Calgar/Chapter Master model for my Scythes Army both on the tabletop and within the burgeoning body of lore that my friends and I have wrote for our perspective armies within the 41st Millennium.

The inspiration of this kitbash was an old piece of artwork of Oberdeii. The base model is the old Gravis Calgar as I found it was regal enough to read as a Chapter Master and since it was being retired I figured it would be best to use a kit that wouldn’t be seen as often anymore. The powerfist is a RTB01 power glove and the other arm is from the Heavy Intercessor kit. The checkered pauldron is a 3d printed Lamenters Gravis shoulder pad that a friend gave me, and the other pauldron is something I commissioned from Fiverr and is based specifically off of the Oberdeii sketch and other Scythes Heraldry.

Finally with the helmet I really struggled to find something that was satisfied with. Ultimately I ended up picking this admittedly weird bee helmet that once again I commissioned (not for this project) and I digibashed it with a beakie STL I had. The reason I went with this helmet is a deeply personal reason that I think I mentioned before on this sub. To put it simply I like the Scythes of the Emperor because I am a farmer/homesteader and my whole family is. More specifically I am a Beekeeper and the Scythes of the Emperor really spoke to me on a personal level. Their color scheme, lore, culture, and home really stuck a chord with me. So I figured why not give my Chapter Master a helmet that looked like a bee; a BEEkie if you will.

I want to thank Hernan Godoy of Fiverr for being such an incredible 3D sculptor. Not trying to make this sound like an ad but he was incredibly easy to work with and provided phenomenal sculpts.

These guys were all done last week, and will be joining my Ultramarines and Successor joint task force.

Trying to decide? Not a huge fan of the Mechanicus but love space marines. So is there enough to be worth it?

The left is primed matte black painted proacryl blues the proacyl orange with a transparent orange wash

The middle is primed with that valarak yellow and the washbis under the model

Same with the right

Which one do you think is best suited?

Been on a tear recently, guess the coffee is kicking in.

Closing out these guys before I finish off the SM side of the starter box, wrap up the base coated Librarian in the background, and move into the Crux Terminatus box that’s been haunting/taunting me since I bought it.

Anyway, got some basing and sealing done and have a plan to wrap up both the Terminator Captain, as well as my Lt. w/ combi weapon, whose been sitting 3/4 painted while I promised [lied to] myself I’d settle on a Tyranid color scheme. I think I’ve settled on Kraken, just because of the lore, also more red never hurt.

Also, I really like the idea of the 1st Co Captain being a staunch, diehard Bladeguard Vet at heart, but begrudgingly donning terminator armor and taking up relic weapons ‘because he must.’

Anyway, lemme know what you think of these guys!

I finished my first mini for my first army! Its the first time I've ever painted a face, can you tell? Lol

Having a couple of Fellblades, 4 Lands Raiders (inc a Terminus Ultra) and a trio of Repulsor Executioners you could argue that I'm a fan of armor 🫣

This super heavy looks amazing! I couldn't proxy it in any marine army and it wouldn't have legends rules but….it just looks…..AMAZING!

Hello Brothers, life got in the way of painting for a little while but glad to have finished this today, hope you all like it. For the glory of the emperor & Sotha!

(Wife helped with the recording cause she is better at all that than me 😂)

Continuing with painting squads in batches & reducing piles of half-opened boxes, a bunch of detail work to go, wasn’t necessarily a fan of the push fit, but I made due; really a fan of the models in general, they look tough as hell, and my inner child is screaming with joy.

Also, really loving these Tilting Shields from Archie’s Forge, they’re well made, though the notch on the back is sometimes a little ‘short’ for the job. But they glue on easily enough, take paint without issue, and I love how they look when done. I’m pretty sure I bought one of each ‘generic’ pack and I’m really impressed with how many different models there are, and how few repeats I’ve seen. I’m being frugal with them and keeping them, generally, to leadership/HQs, Sgts., or brothers with unique weapons/molds. Will buy again.

Last two images are my Phobos Lib. - with some of the ‘whoops’ pieces that had broken off from the PopGoesTheMonkey scythe bits. I’m as gentle as I can be with them, but it feels like the ‘default’ material they provide ‘Classic MJP’ is a bit too delicate for me, but they give you plenty of the little bits , and I was pleased with being able to recycle some of them with a little nipper action. I’ll buy again for sure, but I’m inclined to try the other material.

The Scythes did not fade with the fall of our world. We adapted. We endured.
