Soldier 76 is actually fun and I want to get better with him.

Hero: Soldier 76
Rank: Silver 2
Map: New Queen Street
Platform: Xbox
Gamertag: Valdyr
VOD: VDRKCS
Match Time: 11:22
Perks: Helix Propulsion and Stim Pack

Ever since I started playing OW in 2016 I’ve avoided Soldier 76. Mostly because I used to be a tank main, but after a break I’ve been playing mostly DPS and have avoided him because “Call of Duty Man is boring”. Especially with such a diverse roster. It felt like playing D&D as a basic human male. I could not have been more wrong.

With a decent damage potential and his ability to re-angle, S76 feels amazing to play IMO. So, I’ve decided that I want to get better with him and use him to climb out of the metal ranks once and for all.

I’m an old gamer (47) who earnestly wants to improve.

It’s easy enough to review a map we lost to point out what could have gone better but I’d prefer to review a win to see what could have made the experience even better. I’ve watched the VOD and have seen some positional mistakes, and a few times where my awareness gave way to chasing a kill I should have let go. These are things I know I need to work on. My question in what else should I be focusing on? I warm up in VAXTA and some deathmatch, but I know my aim still needs work. But what other mechanical or decision making skills should I be refining?

And finally, in your opinion, do I have the pieces I need in order to climb or am I a lost cause? I have no hubris to believe I’ll ever be Chanp or anything but I honestly feel like I could at least leave Silver.

Soldier main hard stuck low Master any advice?

Hello everyone

I am a Soldier 76 main who’s stuck at low master/high diamond. My peak was master 3 for the first time last season.

After watching my own vods couple of times I noticed the following.

1- I die a lot, like I can go 17 deaths a match sometimes, I tried to not die but it’s easier said than done, I just don’t understand the concept behind not dying, what’s going on in other players mind who doesn’t die often.

2- I will yolo dive the low health enemy and usually get punished for it and die.

3- I like to ego dual an enemy but I usually die if it was Casedy especially.

4- When the match begins on a game modes like robot or point, I don’t really know if my priority should be to stay behind my team and do damage at first or just go for a flank and try to get the enemy’s attention( I usually die when I go for a flank when the match starts )

5- I find myself losing on certain maps and game modes like push and hybrid push especially on defense, I just don’t know what I am supposed to do especially when defense with soldier, so I try to avoid these maps and game modes as much as possible but it’s not helping at all.

6- Sometimes when I play against top 500 or grandmasters/high master I find myself not able to reach their back line especially if the enemy team has Anna. She will just heal her team and we will lose because no one is able to touch her.

7- There’s certain match ups I would lose 80% because I can’t deal with certain characters as Soldier 76 for example, divers like Doomfist and D.va, long ranged champion like Frejia and Sojourn and tanks like Zarya and Sigma. I try to banned these characters but sometimes my team will prioritize other op characters and that is understandable.

8- I don’t really know what should I do with my ult, it’s and aim bot and everyone will run away behind a cover or shield, I gave up trying to do big plays with it and that left me second guessing myself on when to use it and why.

I am confident in my aim but I feel like I don’t really understand overwatch on a fundamental level, my decision making is also wrong most of the times. I felt like until low master I can get away with good aim and bad decision making until low master but in master most of the players have a really good aim, what usually differs are the game knowledge and good decision making. any tips or help on how to improve? Watching pro players wasn’t very helpful unfortunately.

Fellow console players, anyone else's aim feels wonky since the new season started?

Did they change or tweak anything with aim assist again? Or is it something else?

I also noticed that as if the servers would be even more unstable than they usually have been recently, more lag and disconnections.

Do you think we'll get a new Soldier76 skin or some buffs/positive changes to him in the midseason? If yes, what would you like to see?

Looking at how rarely they buff/give him quality of life changes I doubt they will buff him even tho he could use a bit of tuning up.

As for skins I'm still hoping we get something cute/funny again for him soon, something like his Class President 76 or Charming76 skins were

Is it just me or Soldier76 keeps pulling the short end of the stick with the mythic tier content?

His mythic skin could actually have been peak if it was actually worked out properly with actual customization, more colors instead of pretty much black mostly and proper VFX as his ambient VFX, his sprint and Tactical Visor effects are very lackluster and barely visible

And his weapon skin has an absolutely low effort flourish effect while pretty much everyone else has actually interesting ones. Also even the pattern around the ultimate ability meter feels half assed as it's barely anything, and the weapon is still bugged with it reverting back to zero when you die

Why does it feel like the devs keep half assing things when it comes to Soldier76 even though he's a very popular hero? It's actually infuriating when looking at what other heroes have meanwhile he has so many missed opportunities and half finished content

Do you guys think they will buff/tweak Soldier76 somehow tomorrow?

Or is there a part of his kit you wish they'd buff or change? I personally would like if his healing got buffed at least bit (i still miss the attached biotic field from the community mode but i doubt they will add that to him in the near future sadly)

Fingers crossed though they won't nerf him...

Fat fingered Q and got POTG.

Shocked myself as you can see with my pause that I didn't mean to hit Q, ended up killing 2 with visor and securing POTG lmao.

Illios lighthouse gameplan?

Illios has always been a bit of a rougher map for me. I think I'm getting a flow for well and ruins a bit. But I feel unimpactful on lighthouse.

I feel like I should try to control the high ground platform in the middle, but I don't feel I can maintain it for long. It almost feels better to play point, but I imagine my team won't appreciate me doing that.

Does anyone have an approach to this map? Specifically?

Weapon skin for soldier

Is it just me or why do I think like almost every skin doesnt fit for the galaxy weapon skin (except his mythic skin which comes back next season 😭)

If Overwatch ever makes an Attack on Titan collab event then it should be a no brainer of Soldier76 getting an Erwin skin

Not only he looks very similar to young Soldier, but also both are prominent leader figures
