We agreed on a price for a Patrick Mahomes Tecmo and Sam LaPorta Downtown.
After not being willing to use anything but Square (no buyer protections, only seller protections) due to business tax filing consistency, I was obviously suspicious. So, I said I would only take the Sam LaPorta for $200 and if all went well, I would gladly buy the Tecmo if still available.
I asked him to send me a picture of both cards with my username and the time written next to them, which he did. I have already been scammed out of a Bryce Young Kaboom through Reddit. That transaction was through Venmo’s G&S so I am just waiting for that claim to be processed. Unfortunately, I won’t be getting this money back.
After sending the $200, I have been ghosted. I should have known better, and did know better but I was willing to risk $200 but not $2,300 - I very much wanted both of these cards.
Out of my three (3) transactions through Reddit, only one turned out to be legitimate. So, safe to say, I am done buying through Reddit which sucks because I very much like the idea of sellers getting their money instead of giving a significant chunk away to an eBay. I legitimately tried the Reddit thing with the intention of benefiting sellers as I love this hobby and have been collecting cards since I was a little kid sneaking out in my Razor scooter to head to K-Mart to buy football cards.
It is unfortunate that people suck and ruin it for the good ones out there. I am thankful to whoever created this thread for reviews as it’ll perhaps bring me back to buying from Reddit in the future. So, shout out to the creators of this thread/review channel (I don’t know the proper Reddit lingo - apologies haha).
