Ruhr u. Rhein F-641.3 1923 500 Million Mark

Ruhr u. Rhein F-641.3 1923 500 Million Mark, Gold washed, lettered NOTGELD on rim.

These coins were not intended for general circulation. They were produced in protest to French and Belgian non-white occupational troops. Produced by Georg Kolbe, Berlin.

Historical Context
The presence of these non-white colonial soldiers from Africa, and Asia on German soil triggered a massive, racially charged German and international propaganda campaign known as the "Schwarze Schmach" or the "Black Horror on the Rhine," which heavily exaggerated both the total number of Black troops present and their conduct.

Münden, Hannoversch F-646.4 Undated (1947)) 10pf

Münden, Hannoversch- (Niedersachsen) Stadt F-646.4 undated (1947) 10pf. Aluminum, no varieties, mintage: 93,902 coins.
* this coin has a 40‘ rotated die.

The emergency “Notgeld” issues of Münden are the only recognized Notgeld Coins issued after the Second World War. There were two denominations produced in two different versions, all circulating for a very short
Time period before being recalled with the German Currency Reform of 1948.

The first two issued coins, 5pf and 10pf coins were authorized in the British Zone of Occupation on 5 September 1947. These two coins contained the word Pfennig on them, with mintages of:
F-646.1 5pf - 86,721 coins.
F-646.2 10pf - 45,395 coins.

By November 1947 all of the first two issued released into circulation had mysteriously disappeared from circulation. Subsequently a second release of emergency “Notgeld” coins was necessary. The second version of coins lacked the word Pfennig, which was replaced by a vignette under the 5 & 10. Mintages:
F-646.3 5pf - 35,520 coins.
F-646.4 10pf - 93,902 coins.

The second version of Notgeld coins were released in November 1947, circulating until January 1948. At which time all four Notgeld coins under the German Currency Reform were devalued and recalled at a rate of 10 : 1. This resulted in a large number of coins being melted down.
