I've been building in digital wellbeing space for more than 5 years and finally built my own vision of how screen time should be done on iOS.
Introducing "oh my hours"!
The app is super straightforward: your day is a 24h grid. Open a distracting app even for a second — that hour is lost. Don't open it and the hour is yours.
I didn't expect the loss aversion mechanic to be so effective. Been using it for a month already and I have under 2 hours screen time daily — down from around 4.
Just set up a lock screen widget and a home screen widget. Watching that hour about to flip motivates me more than any screen time/app blocker I've tried.
