Switch to old Tesla to save money?

I usually rent a car on a monthly basis, and with gas prices getting pretty crazy lately, I’ve been debating whether it makes sense to rent a Tesla Model 3 SR from Hertz instead of a gas car.

The Tesla would cost me around $1100/month, but most of the Hertz Teslas I’ve seen are older high-mileage units (150k+ km), so I’m a bit concerned about battery health and reduced range.

My other option is something like a newer Mercedes CLA 250 for around $1000/month.

A few things about my situation:

  • I commute about 70 km daily for work
  • I live in North York and work around Mississauga
  • I do not have access to a Level 2 charger at home
  • I’d basically have to rely on Supercharging all the time
  • Supercharger rates seem to be around $0.40–$0.60/kWh lately

So I’m trying to figure out:

  1. Would the Tesla actually save me money overall compared to a gas luxury sedan?
  2. How bad is it living with only Supercharging for daily commuting?
  3. Are the older Hertz Teslas still worth renting with that kind of mileage?
  4. Does anyone know of any cheaper or free charging spots around North York/Mississauga?

Would love to hear from anyone who has done something similar or rented Teslas long-term.
