The Seal, Harwich

I was jumped by a group of three men who shouted homophobic slurs at me near their pickup truck outside of The Seal pub in Harwich. Message me if you witnessed the incident or if you have any information.

The most unlikely long lost family story you've ever heard

The shit I'm about to say is going to sound completely unbelievable but I swear on every dead relative I have that it's the truth. The names I'll be using aren't real, but that's the only thing I'm holding back.

My Grandparents put up a son for adoption when they were 17 back in the 60's. Closed adoption, they never knew what came of their son. They never searched for him because they wanted to believe that he was happy and that they did the right thing. The thought of any other outcome would have been too upsetting. They stayed together and had 2 more children, my dad and my aunt, who learned about their eldest brother when they were both in their 20's, but they didn't search for him out of respect to my grandparents. My grandfather passed away about 20 years ago so he never got to know what happened to his son (in this life, can't speak to the afterlife though... That part is towards the end of this post), but my grandma is still alive and she always maintained that she didn't want to know about him out of fear of finding out something awful.

Well, I (28 f) did an ancestry DNA test recently to see my ancestral origins and I found my uncle...

So I matched with him; let's call him John Johnson, and I matched with his son, Dave Johnson. I immediately searched for a John Johnson on Facebook and found a man who looks identical to my father, and that man had a son on his profile named Dave Johnson so I knew it was who I was looking for. I reached out and asked if he had been adopted in the 60's, if so, I was fairly certain I was his niece and I wanted to connect with him. I didn't hear back right away as I sent the message late at night so I did the normal thing and scrolled through his profile. Right away I noticed that he looked happy, with a beautiful wife, 2 children, and several grandchildren. I also noticed that he loved fishing, just like my dad and their biological father. A fun little coincidence. Perhaps a love of fishing is genetic.

But then I noticed something really freaky.

He was a part of our resort trailer parks Facebook group.

Looking through his and his sons photos, I noticed there were a plethora of photos of their family in the community pool, as well as in different areas of the trailer park. They've been right under our noses for years and we had no idea. This sent me for a loop so I messaged his daughter who was also listed on his facebook and explained that I believe I'm her first cousin and I'd really love to get in touch with them because we are all in the same trailer park. She messaged me back right away and we started chatting, sending confirmation to one another that this was all real. Photos of my family in the park, photos of my family so she could see the uncanny striking resemblance to her father, and screenshots of my DNA match with a man and his son that matched her fathers and brothers names. She contacted her father and he was able to confirm that his ancestry account had a DNA match with me as well so it was definitely true.

When I asked where in the park they were, it was revealed that they've been 1 street over from our trailer since 2021. We've been in the park since 2002, but left for a few years and came back in 2021, so we moved in at the same time. What's funny about that is that my mom has wanted to leave the park for years, but my dad has stood ten toes down about the fact that it's his happy place and he refuses to give it up. Turns out it's his brother's happy place too.

I just think it's crazy. Out of all the places in the world that my dad and his brother could have chosen, they both ended up choosing this same damn trailer park.

Now this next part truly blew my mind.

John Johnson named his son Dave Johnson. My dad and their biological fathers' middle names are both Dave. John Johnson also named his daughter Sarah Margaret Johnson. His biological mother's middle name is Margaret. So despite it being a closed adoption, this man unknowingly named BOTH of his children using names from both of his birth parents.

I met him just this past weekend and he had no idea about any of us, so it was a huge shock to find out that his biological mother, brother, sister, uncle, nieces and nephew have been in the same trailer park as him for years. He even posted a picture of one of the trailer parks communal events and my dad (his brother) and his uncle can be seen in the background.

He has now met his brother, birth mother, and me. Next weekend he's going to meet his sister and my sister, and eventually his uncle.

Now this final part is the woo woo part, but it feels good to talk about it so I'm gonna include it.

I did a ouija board months ago with my mom (don't judge, we know it's not safe but we live on the edge) and my grandpa (John Johnson's bio dad) came through. He told us to look for his son, so I did. Now I can see why my grandpa wanted this. He's been watching us pass each other like ships in the night for years and probably screaming at the top of his lungs about it from beyond the grave.

To top off the woo woo segment, I had a dream about 3 years ago that I gave birth to twins, a girl and a boy named Kelly and Keenan. In my dream, they grew up so fast that I barely got to see them grow up. It was like I was watching them from a distance. Lo and behold, Sarah, my cousin, has twins; a girl and a boy named Kelly and Keenan. I don't know how any of this is possible but it's all true, every word of it. Except for the names of course, those are changed for the privacy of everyone involved.

AIITW for possibly breaking up my brother's marriage?

Spam account since most involved parties know my real one.

I 36M work with my SIL 27F who I guess we can call Ava. She and my brother 30M have been in a relationship for 4 years and married for 1. My brother that we'll call Ben and I have always been super close. He set me up with my fiance and jokingly "returning the favor" I got him in contact with Ava.

As backstory for me and Ava, she's one of my dearest friends. She interned for me when she first got to our company and after getting hired became one of the people that works in our tiny PR department. Being notably older and the head of the department, I sort of naturally took her under my wing. She has that vibe of a younger sister or cousin. We've hung out outside of work plenty of times, mostly in groups with Ben or coworkers, but sometimes alone if we're waiting for others to arrive or we're the last ones to leave. I love her dearly, and strictly platonically.

The trouble started on a work trip that our whole team had to go on. One morning, Ava came in late looking not the greatest. So, like the genius I am, went "Wow, you look awful" (I'm the asshole for that, I know) She told me she was just nauseous and, in another stroke of brilliance, I asked "What are you, pregnant?" (Yes I actually said that. It's a wonder I'm still employed, seeing as my job is based on people skills) Her face went blank and I tried to laugh it off, but she was dead serious. She explained that she'd actually just found out she's pregnant the night before and wanted to tell Ben in person when we got back. I was like cool, your secret's safe with me, and apologized profusely for being such a dick. She was totally chill about it and even said I could tell my fiance, who we both know is completely trustworthy.

A few days after we got back, Ben and Ava invited my fiance and I over for dinner. After lots of hugging, my fiance and I both told them congratulations and that we couldn't wait to be uncles. My brother's face completely dropped as he asked "What are you talking about?"

My fiance and I both tried to say something about a mix up or that we must have heard wrong, but Ben cut us off. He said that he and Ava would discuss it later and that we should just have a nice dinner. I figured it wasn't my business, so I just shut up. But halfway through dinner, my brother started acting weird. Out of the blue, he looks me dead in the eye and says "It's yours, isn't it?". I asked him what in the world he was talking about and he says "Don't play dumb. You knocked up my wife, didn't you? That's the only reason you would know before me."

I was shocked to say the least. I pointed at my very male, very gay fiance, insisting that I don't swing that way and even if I did, my brother's wife would be my very last choice of sexual partner. I tried to explain how I really found out, but he doubled down by accusing me of pretending to be gay just to get closer to Ava. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I don't "look gay", but questioning my sexuality, in front of my partner no less, is a line I will never let anyone cross, family or not. I told them that we were leaving and that the two of them seemed like they needed to talk.

The next morning I woke up to four missed calls from Ben, a voicemail of him spitting profanities and slurs at my partner and I, and a text telling me that Ava and I "deserved each other". He seemed hellbent on the fact that I was the father of Ava's baby. When I tried to call him, it went straight to voice mail. I think he blocked me. I also had a text from Ava telling me that Ben left and is planning on filing for divorce.

Am I the asshole for spoiling the pregnancy announcement? Is that the reason Ben lost his mind? I have so many questions and would just like a little insight from a fresh perspective. After writing all this out, I realize I'm gonna get people in the comments calling this fake. I wish it was. But on god, this is my real life.

Update: Thank you to everyone with kinds words and advice. I appreciate this little community for all their help. I do have a pretty major update on this whole shitshow.

I haven't talked to Ben since the dinner (5 days ago now) but I've spoken to Ava on the phone a couple times. She insisted that my brother is not abusive in any way, and I believe her. I had several comments suggesting that and just had to make sure. Thankfully, they were wrong.

But those of you saying that Ava/Ben was cheating? You couldn't have been more right.

This afternoon my fiance sat me down and said he had something he needed to get off his chest. Ava's baby is his. They've been having an affair for about six months. Both he and Ava are confident that he is the father.

Not only that, but he's been sleeping with my brother on and off for the past year. He says that Ben and Ava have no idea that he's hooking up with the other.

I'm sorry this post isn't more detailed, I didn't ask for specifics. Just thinking about it makes me want to vomit and I couldn't bear listening to my fiance explain himself. More details to come because I'm sure they'll come out whether I want to know or not. I don't even care, as far as I'm concerned all three relationships are broken. I'm completely lost. What do I even do? I lost my fiance, brother, and sister in one fell swoop.
