Is the Last Variable expansion for the Alters free or can it be purchased separately?
I have the base game. It looks like the DLC expansion is included with the Deluxe edition. Can I just purchase the expansion separately or do I have to upgrade to the deluxe edition?
Does it get better?
I have just started the game after hearing good reviews.
I'm only about an hour in but so far I've got stuck on invisible ledges about four or five times.
Went out to find organic. Found a ledge that needed a grappling hook. Wasted time going back to base to craft one because I didn't have the resources to do it.
Went back out to see if I could find a way around the ledge to get organic and found some rapidium i think its called. A pop-up told me to harvest that so I did but then my inventory was full.
Then the radiation alarm started blaring so i tried to run back to base but found the organic so the scanner tutorial popped up so tried doing that quickly but the radiation was going up so abandoned that.
Got halfway to base then got stuck in the floor again and died of radiation.
Should I start again and be more efficient with my time?
Is getting stuck in the scenery common?
As first impressions go don't really like rushing around being on a time limit when I'm learning a new game and being stuck in the scenery doesn't help either.
From a PURE story/personality perspective, who do you think is the best group of alters?
So whilst yes you can say some alters are better than others for their usability and what they bring to the table from a gameplay perspective, from a pure story and personality perspective, who do you think is the best group of alters? Both in terms of how you get along with them and how they get along with each other?
Gameplay Trailer from The Last Variable is here!
youtube.comMy personal experience about the alters (no spoilers)
I saw this game in a recommendation youtube video last year by a YouTuber whose gaming opinions I trust. I wasn't overly excited, but the story and the YouTuber's strong recommendation made me add it to my list. Since I'm in the MENA region, the price seemed quite reasonable. I already had a soft spot for 11-bit Studios games because of Frostpunk. Their Turkish localization of their games was a bonus. But I wasn't a huge, fanatical 11-bit Studios fan, so I couldn't predict how the game would be. I even thought it was an RPG, meaning I could create any character I wanted, not just Jan.
I didn't go into the game with high expectations, but I was seriously surprised by the graphics. Because of the good price and the fact that 11-bit Studios isn't a big company like Rockstar, I thought the graphics wouldn't be great, but they looked really good. Then I moved on to the story section, and seeing how Jan life story was told with visuals similar to Disco Elysium, using DNA code, made me warm up to it. Because I loved finishing Disco Elysium. Honestly, when you factor in the base-building mechanics and the depth of the science fiction story, I didn't stop until I finished it. I felt like I was living my own life while dealing with Jan. I saw the scientist Jan as a close friend when I sought his advice. The game pulled me in.
I really don't understand why this game didn't win an award at the Game Awards in 2025. Forget the Best Sim Strategy award; for me, it was one of the top 3 games of last year. And I'm not someone who only plays 5-10 games a year. In my Steam retrospective, I played 152 games last year and bought over 100 games in total. The Alters stood out from all those games.
Maybe some of you will think I'm exaggerating, but I'm being completely honest. For me, the two best games of last year were The Alters and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. For me, Expedition is behind those two. I advice the game all my friends. Now I'm eagerly awaiting the DLC.
What does it mean there's not enough space?!
I'm trying to collect organics in order to start the journey but the game doesn't allow me to collect more organics since there is "no storage space". But I don't get it. I need 689 organics for the journey but it doesn't go further than 610/700 in the storage, why?
Then, what does that little "+90" mean?
Do anyone know the logic behind this game being cheaper on Steam than gog?
I dont know if its all countries or just mine but the sale % is higher on Steam.
I may still buy it on gog, so that not what I am asking.
I am just curious is anyone knows why?
How dialogue-heavy is this game?
This sounds like a game that I'd love, thinking of getting it during the summer sale. My one concern is the game focusing more on story/cut scenes and dialogue than I prefer.
Does the game feel like a lot of time is spent on dialogue? Or is it well balanced between the rest of the gameplay?
Thank you!
playthrough without the botanist
i wanted to make a playthrough without the botanist, however i know that later on he is crucial to make Lena stop asking questions. And since i wanted to go Maxwell playthrough, is that possible without the botanist?
Anyone with experience with playthrough without the botanist that can elaborate on the outcome?
And before you ask, yes i did try to google the answer 1st, but most information out there is more about dialogues of each Alter.
Plus the abysmall degradation of google Search over the years has made the search a nightmare.
Tabla rasa question
I'm still trying to stave off the frustration that the DLC isn't available yet, and am trying to get all the lesson yet when I try to tabla rasa story line he doesn't show up in my base could I get some help. I choose the maxwell story line and created him (TR) and during the story line he wakes up one but the scientist sedates him again he then takes the samples and he (TR) dies, is it random? or do I need to have an altar to do something in between? Thanks can't wait for the DLC
Question about an event in Act 2
I'm talking about the "vote" that the alters decide to organize for themselves in regards to the brain disease. I showed up, I guess, too late for it and they disbanded while I was trying to start the event. They were all upset by this, some thinking, "I'm sad the vote ended the way it did, it was a good idea," and others thinking, "I can't believe they thought it was appropriate to vote on this" (paraphrasing on both). I assumed this was supposed to happen, so I played on.
My question is, was this event scripted to happen like this, and if not, did I miss much by not activating it?
I just woke up for the first time, any advice?
My friend told me about this game a few days ago. I went in blind and I’m Loving it. Just created my first Alter and things are…. touchy. Is there any advice you would give to a new player?
how yall passing time with 21 days left for The Alters: Last Variable ?
Playing Mole dirffernt than the Alters but its really good its like irong lung but execpt im in a Digger machine. Don't Sleep With The Fishes is pretty good and its like 60 seconds on sea.
Playing Her in the abyss and its like Lifeline and text adventure feels like im a communicator really with like conversations and guiding her. Then thats it lol cant wait for the alters dlc
For multiple play throughs, do you load new game or replay an old day?
Going into my 3rd play through. for play through #2 i loaded a new game. id like to skip the setup and pretty much just start with the technician. will i still be able to gain achievements and play through normally this way?
Meaning of Life Quest
I am in my 2nd run and the meaning of life just doesn't want to trigger. I completed the private research somewhen in Act 2 an now I'm in the final preparations. Started the quest 5 days before sunrise and waited for 2 days for the scientist to ask me taking his day off.
But somehow it's not triggering and I'm wandering if there's anything I can do about it.
Research for Sarcophagus, Sleeping Gas etc is finished, Scientist is happy and I'm still waiting for him to approach me.
Any ideas?
