Who has any idea when think big scholarship would be out? And what time do they often release the results

Okay so during one of the TGSSI virtual sessions, we had to complete a survey. I answered honestly and said some of the information felt repetitive and surface-level because I was hoping for more practical/deeper discussion about AI and adapting to it professionally.

Now I haven’t received the travel details form for the in-person component, while other scholars apparently already have it on their dashboards. One of my squad members said they actually got a CALL from Gates because of their survey response too, and now I’m lowkey panicking wondering if I said something wrong 😭

For context:
- I completed the virtual sessions
- submitted the survey
- checked my dashboard/email repeatedly
- still no travel form

Do y’all think I’m overthinking this, or should I actually be concerned?

My enrollment deposit was due May 1 (paid) and my housing deposit is due June 1 (unpaid). Does the gates scholarship pay for those? Or is it only when the school year starts? I read through the entire packet but I’m still unclear.

Also, for “personal expenses” around the start time of the school year (ex. Laptop), how would I get in contact with them for them to pay for it? Because it said in there that they would.

I’m sorry if these are stupid questions, I tried to figure it out on my own first lol

What’s the fit of the shirts like? I’m trying to decide if I should get my normal size, or size up for a relaxed fit.

I keep looking for threads talking about what it’s actually like, but all I keep seeing are vague answers like, "they give you a lot of free t-shirts" or "you do a lot of networking."

Can any past scholars break down what actually happens at this conference? What does a typical day look like, and is it actually fun or just like the Zooms, but in person?

Or maybe I am just ready to go to Arizona.

I haven’t had my camera on this whole time (except for mini check ins) because this was the worst weekend for this to happen for me ( graduation + church event). Will this have any impact on me having the scholarship / Arizona event ???

I just can’t do these boring meetings anymore.

Is anyone else confused about what was discussed in the “Managing Your TGS Award” section of the Zoom call, especially the breakout room? Would anyone mind explaining?

Soooo… does anybody know when do the people who were waitlisted hear back from Gates? 😭

I accepted my scholarship on the portal on may 1st, and I decided not to do the summer institute due to scheduling complications I have this summer. But I have not had anymore confirmation after I completed the forum on the portal. Is there anyway I could verify? It scares me because it makes me feel like there's a chance I didn't fill the form out correctly.

Why: I'm an independent researcher working on a geographic analysis of nationally recognized high-achieving students across the United States. My project maps the high schools that have produced scholars from programs like Gates Millennium Scholars, Horatio Alger, Presidential Scholars, and Coca-Cola Scholars, and analyzes trends by state, region, school type, and socioeconomic background.

I have been able to locate lists of Gates Millennium scholarship recipients for most years between 2007-2018, but I am hoping to extend my dataset beyond that. I am looking for lists of past scholars—specifically name (which honestly could be scrubbed), home state, and high school name. You can DM me if you don’t want to post publicly.

ETA: I have emailed the Gates Foundation which has told me it doesn’t retain these records and to reach out to UNCF. No one from UNCF has gotten back to me.

Hi! I am looking to rent an apartment close to campus and am wondering if there's a limit to the amount GATES covers for housing? The area I'm looking at has average apartment prices of 1,500+ as cheapest option.
