How’s everyone brewing it in the backcountry? I’m curious about caffeine intake methods.
What is everyone doing to get some caffeine in the backcountry? There are many options: the Coghlan's percolator, the French Press, Aeropress, the pour over, pouches, the instant, the MiniEspresso, the injected straight into the veins, the tablets, the tea. Sugar? Creamer? Campfire roasted beans and freshly ground? Let’s hear it.
I let my subscription lapse, so this may be my last issue!

Mystery Animal in water (Lower Basswood)
This weekend we were staying in Lower Basswood falls and we saw a mystery animal out in the water. We were all confused in what this animal was.
What do you think?
Travel coordination
Homies! I am bringing some new folks with me this year. They're traveling from Kentucky and Ohio. What do you all recommend they do? Drive up? Fly and do a rental? Fly and some how get a shuttle?
Thanks!
Namekagon Question
For those of you who have been on the Namekagon, do you just filter water like in the BWCA? Is that sufficient for safe drinking water there?
Would a homie livestream be jumping the shark?
At the end of the month, Hopalicious, TheWhitePine, BettysPiez, and myself are doing a Numbers-adjacent trip to what I've been calling the "Wilder Chain" of Horseshoe, Brewis, Harbor, North Wilder, and South Wilder. There isn't a lot of information on these lakes, and many maps are in disagreement, and this has been a personal goal of mine to get out there and set the story straight regarding sites, portages, and other current conditions of the area (info gathered to be shared with Paddle Planner).
As it is adjacent to the Aluminum Highway, I keep having silly ideas, and one was, cell service permitting, livestreaming on Saturday, May 30. I have zero idea what the heck we'd even do or talk about and personally have the charisma of a half-popped kernel of popcorn, but for me the absurdity of streaming from the BWCA to the homies is enough reason to try. If service isn't good enough, what about some voice channel shenanigans on the Discord? Is this Rex behavior? Is this as stupid as SOS from the numbers because of a bad mushroom trip? Or is this next-level big-brain genius?
I won't force any of the other guys to participate if they don't want to. This is my stupidity, and if they want to social distance from it, that's probably wise. Feel free to apply light peer pressure to them if you want to though.
P.S. What should we use to stream if we even have the service to do so? I don't have enough YouTube subs to be allowed to use YT, so....Insta? Twitch? Obviously I'm NOT a streamer, and this might be a failure before it has even begun. I highly doubt we will have the kind of service to make it possible anyway.
Petition to ban AI generated content from this sub
Disclaimer: this post is not meant to be a criticism of anyone.
At risk of sounding like a total knob, I humbly request a ban to all AI content on this sub.
Data centers are emitting unfathomable amounts of carbon and heat waste, depleting the water reserves and literally heating the earth of the communities they are occupying, many of which never consented to their presence.
Just as we hope for others to stand with us and oppose the irreversible damage that our beloved wilderness would sustain from copper sulfide mining, we must stand in with our fellow humans in opposition to this plague which has beseeched so many communities.
AI in its current form is a cancer to humanity and to the environment, and it is our duty as homies of the Earth to do our part to slow it's spread.
P.S. Pete Stauber probably loves AI.
Found this at the end of a driveway. Time to deal with my vague feelings of unease.
Ask your doctor about Poisantin.
On AI content...
The subreddit has been overran with TumbleWeeds since the discord (and maybe slower since the 'rona).
I get I am one of the AI 'offenders' but, I'd like to encourage more folks to actively contribute to the subreddit by posting. If you don't like the content other homies are posting — I am having no luck getting actual stats but, prior to the birdament top level posts had trickled down to basically nothing, and comment engagement was fairly low on those posts.
Rather than complaining about how other homies are paddling on the subreddit; be the change you want to see and post nonAI content.
