Foe those leaving Varo due to the APY decrease...

I switched to SoFi. 4.50% APR on up to $20k and 3.1% on the rest. 😏

Muuuuch better in every way, and it's a real bank with a Bank charter (like Varo).

Most of all, they can be trusted (as much as any bank can be lol)

Leaving Varo

Dude Varo is fake AF for this. I would brag to everyone about the massive yield of 5 percent on your savings account. Now they lowered it, I’ll be closing this bank account as soon as possible.

So fake, considering they gave me notice the same day it changed, should be illegal. F U Varo.

what bank to switch to now that Varo is bad?

the interest rate decrease shows that this bank is no longer good to stick with long-term. anyone have ideas on who else to bank with? i haven't done enough research yet but maybe Sofi?

Account closed

Has anyone had this happen to them?! If so, how long did it take to get your money back? I’m so stressed right now. I had my checks direct deposited there and that’s my only account. It had my rent money for tomorrow and money for my daughter’s formula. I’m a single mom and won’t get paid until the 10th. I literally had all of my money in this account and now I won’t be able to pay rent or feed my own child. I have no idea why they’d close it? I had money in it and I wasn’t disputing anything. Support couldn’t tell me much besides in 21 days I’ll get a check in the mail.

Kicking myself for all the times I recommended Varo

Varo kicked me out a few days ago but given the recent email about decreased APY, I guess it’s for the best.

Been a Varo user for over 4 years now, always used it very minimally just as my primary savings account. I’d direct deposit $1000 of my pay there for rainy days, never used the debit card or had any crazy transactions or anything.

I think they weren’t making any money on me and also the source of the direct deposits has now changed in the last year since I went back to grad school. I have been working different internships plus my husband now directly deposits into it too. That’s the only reason I can think they would randomly close my account with absolutely no notice or reason.

Now I’m waiting on a fat check that hopefully comes soon and in the full amount (have been reading horror stories of losing rent money).

Leave Varo before they leave you yall. They’ll go under eventually for sure.

Varo Closed My Account On Accident... Now I Can't Access My Money

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a Varo Bank customer since I turned 18. Over time, I’ve run into multiple issues with them, and honestly I should have switched banks a long time ago.

Most recently, I was actively on a live chat with support about a denied check deposit when my account was suddenly closed. While I was still in the conversation, I got logged out and then received an email saying my account had been closed by my request. I did not request or authorize this.

Right now I have no access to my funds and I’ve been told it can take up to about three weeks to receive anything back. I’m honestly shocked that a bank can cut off someone’s access to all their money and not offer any kind of priority handling or real support for the situation.

After this happened, I also lost access to in-app support and chat logs, so I had to call instead. Even then, getting clear answers has been incredibly difficult. On the phone, I was told the closure was a mistake on their end, but also that they can’t reopen the account.

Varo has not provided any meaningful help or made any effort to expedite the return of my funds or the check that is being mailed back to me.

On top of that, I’ve had ongoing issues with them over time, especially with check deposits being declined without clear explanations. When I first opened my account, I couldn’t deposit checks for about a year. For some reason my deposit limit was set at $0 and customer support told me there was nothing they could do 🙄

Right now I’m just waiting for my funds to be returned and dealing with the stress of suddenly losing access to my main account. I'm also annoyed because between now and when I expect to receive my check, I would normally review an APY interest payment on my savings which I will now no longer receive due to their error.

Has anyone else had experiences like this with Varo? And does anyone have advice on what kind of action I can take or what I might actually be entitled to in a situation like this?

If you are currently using Varo or considering it as your main bank, I would strongly recommend looking into other options before relying on them for your primary finances.

PSA: Do NOT use your Varo Debit Card for important purchases. They will not dispute items that never arrive.

Varo Bank officially denies disputes for "goods not received" on debit cards (Regulation E)

Credit score dropped 113 points despite on time payments?

What the heck? Has anyone else had this happen when trying to build credit with the Varo Believe card? I had no credit history and managed to build my credit with on time payments which got me a fair score of 671... Well a month goes by with NO MISSED Payments and all on time... and somehow my credit score dropped 113 points to VERY POOR! Just what the heck? Has anyone else had this issue building credit with the believe card? Has the believe card even helped you build credit? I am so stumped right now...

I'm done with Varo!

First off they are a shit bank. I make good money but I'm not eligible for any of the advances or loans and I came from chime where I was eligible for everything. Now today apparently Varo has a limit on how many times you can use your debit card. I was trying to order food and it kept getting declined so I talk to customer service and they told me I had to wait till 3am to use my card again because I reached their limit. I've never dealt with this at any bank I've ever used ever. Only thing customer service can say is "it's the system, we cant do anything" and that's for everything you ask em! I'm livid and I'm switching my direct deposit immediately. I wouldn't recommend this bank to anyone. This has been the worst experience I've ever had at a bank. Imagine your bank telling you sorry you cant access any of your money until 3am tomorrow. This is absurd and completely unacceptable. The most ridiculous shit I've ever dealt with. Fuck Varo. Fuck Varo. Fuck Varo. Did I mention FUCK Varo???

don't bank here

if you have any issues you'll be lead around in circles by support. impossible to actually get somebody to look into any issues. chat will tell you to call the number and choose an option that tells you to go to the chat. varo treats their customers like shit. the official account here hasn't even been active for a year, they don't care about you even if they have your money.
