1966 Raquel Welch Magazine advertisement- “Coppertone™️ gives you a better tan!” -What a lovely way to burn. 🔥
🚨Just a reminder! 🚨 While vintage swimwear is the heart of this community, inspirational posts that celebrate the full retro aesthetic are also totally open for discussion!
Miss Paradise Park, 1958
Found this on Pinterest but it was no info on it, I assumed from the hair and swimsuit styles, that it was the late 50s. Finally reverse Google image searched and was right, from Miss Paradise Park, 1958. I’ve actually been looking at a lot of photos for African-American hair references lately to brush up (ha ha) on my mental library and I remember thinking how these mini Afros look really cute and seem to be like a textured take on the “Italian cut” or otherwise very short and tousled fifties hair. People think Afros are 60s/70s but they’re so much more versatile!
A set of photos taken (Circa Feb/25/1967) - The Miss Ford Falcon beauty contest, sponsored by Tom Croft Motors.
A quick note before anyone asks: I don't endorse beauty contests or pageants, and I'm sharing these photos purely for their historical and fashion value.
Events like the 1967 Miss Ford Falcon contest are a fascinating snapshot of mid-century culture. They capture the swimwear, hairstyles, accessories, posing styles, and even the way manufacturers and dealerships marketed cars and fashion together during the era. Whether you're interested in vintage swimsuit construction, period styling, photography, or the social history surrounding these events, there's a lot to study in these images.
I hope you'll enjoy them as a piece of fashion history and feel free to point out any interesting details you notice.
