[John Wick] What if John DIDN'T kill Santino in the Continental Hotel
Inspired by a post on a different sub exploring this scenario.
Let's imagine the following happening in a parallel universe: John Wick does not kill Santino (Let's say Winston successfully talked him down) like he does in the canon version of John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017). Then, Wick completely one-ups Santino by basically doing the same thing Santino sought to do: he stays in the Continental INDEFINITELY until Santino calls off the bounty on him.
Santino, now that he has taken a seat at the High Table + his already large influence and power, he will definitely open another contract on John. Worldwide, even. The bounty will remain open indefinitely until the job is done.
Santino, on the other hand, does not want to stay in the hotel indefinitely and wants Wick dead ASAP.
Wick, however, decides he isn't moving from the Continental until Santino calls off the hit.
It's basically a game of chicken.
Now, let's remember something all the way back in John Wick: Chapter 1 (2014).There are literally people who are willing to break the rules and be denounced excommunicado (Perkins was one of them).
Thanks to this, John will have to watch his back. Santino could find some other way to screw John over and get him killed. While Winston could help somehow, he is still beneath the table, so I'd say the help he could give would be very minimal.
Given all this information, how does Wick NOT killing Santino at the end of Chapter 2 affect the franchise? Does this mean John Wick Chapters 3 (2019) and 4 (2023) no longer happen?
