Seeking suggestions for the best social groups in the area

I'm (34F) looking to join some local groups that meet regularly so I can be more social and meet more people in the area. I'm especially interested in things like book clubs, board games, crafts, casual rec sports, outdoor activities, dance, or even groups that get together to watch and discuss movies or shows. I'm also open to things like trivia or other hobbies since I enjoy learning new things, but I'm not super interested in watching sports or playing video games.

Groups based in Corvallis or Salem could work too, but I'd prefer to not go much farther than that.

Note: I'm already on Meetup and Eventbrite, I just haven't really found what I'm looking for, though I'd definitely be open to specific group recommendations.

Hi, I am a 21 year old female who just graduated from OSU and is looking for some ways to build community in Albany. I am looking for suggestions on places to meet similarly aged individuals looking for friends! I enjoy baking, nature, hiking, fishing, yoga, and thrifting!

Local Albany Pest Control Owner — Happy to Answer Pest Questions

Hey everyone, my name is Cameron and I own H3 Pest Control here in Albany.

A little backstory: I moved to Albany years ago to help start and grow what became one of the largest pest control companies in the area. After the owner sold the company to private equity, I decided it was time to take the plunge and start my own local, owner-operated pest control company.

I wanted to build something smaller, more personal, and more focused on honest service — no corporate call center, no pressure sales, and no sending a different technician every visit. Just local pest control from someone who actually lives and works in the community.

We help with ants, spiders, wasps, yellowjackets, rodents, termites, cockroaches, bed bugs, fleas, and general pest issues around Albany and the surrounding Willamette Valley.

I also know Reddit is not the place for spammy advertising, so I’m happy to use this post as more of an AMA. If you have pest questions, need help identifying something, or want advice before paying someone to come out, feel free to ask in the comments.

Thanks for letting me introduce myself. I’m excited to be building something local here in Albany.

Is this your cat?

Grand Prairie area. She’s been hanging around us for about a month. Coat seems okay, but her eye is goopy, and she’s starting to feel thin. Gave her some food, water, and love, but don’t want to accidentally lure her away if she’s just grazing and has a good home waiting.

I’ve got a Bluetooth microchip reader coming in this afternoon, so hopefully that will shine some light.

Edit: I believe her name is Luna, and have been attempting to contact people I think are her family, but so far haven’t had any response.

Nearby 4th of July festivities?

Hello, im new to the area and my spouse LOVES 4th of July so we're trying to figure out what to do. We enjoy small town festivals but small cities like corvallis/ Eugene are also fine. He's big on fireworks. We love live music but I am absolutely not going to see yet another shitty country cover band - i am happy to see all the shitty rock/pop cover bands 🙂

Any idea if theres any 4th of July events that fit our wants? Tl;dr - fireworks with live music that isn't country, and somewhere not Portland.

Looking for local writers and poets for a live reading!

Hello! I helped organize a live reading at PRAx during OSU's literary journal---PRISM's----2025 launch party, and a year later, I'm joining up with a local artist to do another one! We'll be hosting Spoken Word for Peace on August 19th from 7-9pm in the common house of Coho Ecovillage, and we're looking for local artists to read their poetry and prose.

We're open to sign-ups for up to 3 pieces, totalling up to 10 minutes of spoken word combined. Mature content is absolutely fine (we'll have the family-friendly writing first and the mature writing later, so people with young children can stay for the first part and leave when it gets too much), but we ask for no "on-screen" sexual violence, torture, or detailed child/animal abuse. No AI-generated work, please!

If you're interested, please sign up here!

Our "official" description: Spoken Word for Peace is a community celebration of poetry and prose, featuring live readings from local writers and poets both established and new to the scene. There will be $10 charged at the door to all non-performers, every cent of which will go to Corvallis Palestine Solidarity's clean water for Gaza fundraiser!

If you have any questions, feel free to message me. We look forward to hearing your writing!

Pest Control Recommendations

Does anyone have a Pest Control company they like to remove those little black ants a.k.a. sugar ants or pissants.

I’ve tried lots of home remedies, but they keep coming back! Time to hire the professionals.
