Scope Suggestions

Hi everyone,

I have a pair of 10 x 42 binoculars which are great. However, I’ve found myself in hides a lot recently trying to ID birds at the far end of ponds/lakes/at sea, and really struggling.

I’d like to be able to see birds in detail just that bit further than the binoculars can offer.

Does anyone have any suggestions for scopes? This is purely a hobby and not a livelihood, so I don’t want to break the bank.

Budget would probably be around £500.

Thanks!

Help with duck ID please

Saw these at fairbun ings today. It was a parent duck with 4 younger still fluffy ducks. They were all diving underwater to feed. Sorry the photo isn't great, still new at this and can't afford a better camera at the moment!

Thanks in advance for any help x

Best accessible birdwatching spots up north

Good afternoon!

I was hoping to get some advice from you lovely lot. I have my elderly in-laws visiting from abroad next May/June and they are keen birders. I am looking for suggestions of the best places to take them between Edinburgh and York (their trip is not yet planned so huge flexibility). The catch is that my father in law has serious mobility issues; he can't walk more than ~500 m and steps need to be shallow. Alas he's not going accept using a wheelchair any time soon. So far Bempton Cliffs is a must but I am wondering how people find Kielder and Lindisfarne? Are there any birding boat trips anywhere that are actually accessible? Many thanks!

Birdwatching in London

Just as the name suggests. I’m moving to London shortly and want to get into bird watching.

What are good places to birdwatch?

Are telephoto lenses acceptable at these places?

Etc
