Hope for the future?

As I'm sure many of you can relate. Blue apron for many years now has taken the burden of many tasks involving dinner away from us.

Does anyone here know if there is any hope that they will bounce back from this? I was thinking of giving it a couple more weeks to see if it can recover.

If the company is just going to go under though or not be able to bounce back promptly I might have to pivot despite many years as a customer. Just looking to see if anyone has any insight on the situation?

Tue Delivery from Tracy CA

They cancelled my order a few days ago due to they were not able to fulfill it completely in the email. But I saw they also mentioned in the email that menu showing available they should be able to deliver. So I unskipped and picked four as a try, complete mealkita for all four.

what do you guys think the odds are that i ever see any of this money?

i just canceled the stupid $9.99 subscription, disputed the charge from the last box (which only had green onions and mayonnaise) after they promised a refund that never came, and texted the help number requesting a refund for the months subscription so i can also dispute that charge when they ignore my message. $114 is a lot of money, like 3 weeks of my regular BA meals if they were still functioning. do you think if i fight them on it and demand they charge back the “credit” to my card they’ll actually do it?

$20 credit every future order (wishful thinking!)

For now, I'm filling out both my BA and HelloFresh menus, planning to cancel the BA orders until I see that the boxes are being successfully delivered to you in the East Coast. Meanwhile I notice that ALL my future orders include a $20 credit. Is that supposed to make me feel better about the chance that my box will show up, full and intact?

Horrible experience for the past three weeks

Foresaw some issues after they announced the logistic changes to "reduce carbon emissions" but didn't expect anything of this magnitude.

First week: major ingredients missing, like the tortillas for the taco meal, carrotts and pita for the falafel..around 20%of ingredients missing. Complained and got a $30 credit, thought I would give them another chance.

Second week: box arrived a day late with no warning. 2/3 of ingredients missing including all the proteins. Wilted herbs and all produce packed loose in the box. Nome of the 5 meals I ordered can be made. Customer service completely unresponsive after several tries through text and email, cant get a hold of anyone to process a refund.

Third week: thankfully they just cancelled the box meant for today and issued me a refund.

Overall an awful experience, never seen a company go downhill so fast. What a stupid idea to divest from their logistics unit, someone thought to save pennies and instead they will lose all their customer base over this.

So sad, blue apron was our favorite meal kit company for over a year.

Edit: so it looked like I did get a refund for that second week box. Although I haven't received any response on the topic, it is displayed as refunded in the BA app. I will make sure to monitor my credit card to check if there has actually been a refund.

Any luck on their Monday delivery?

I thought I’d give them one more try and yes it’s more than last week’s ingredients but still missing chicken breast, an onion and some sauces.

I’m in NJ if that helps.

Have things gotten better for anyone? I tried calling and sent text messages and no response. Even sent an email and a follow up email too and nothing.

No box - order disappeared?

Anyone else not get their box this week and it has also disappeared from the app as if it never existed? My last order shows 8/10 and my upcoming/this week just shows 8/24 (next week) but I get my order every week (except for lately they are sometimes late, but at least then they’ve still been in the app). I even received this email that they were replacing an entire meal… but nothing about the entire order being canceled.

What’s the best alternative?

We are giving up on Blue Apron. What is the best alternative? Didn’t love the Google research I did for any other services. Guessing this thread has been down a similar rabbit hole given the massive Blue Apron issues

Can we start an old recipe card megathread?

I threw out my binder of blue apron recipes in a fit of cleaning. Then this happened. HUGE MISTAKE. What if we created a megathread or something similar that people could scroll through to find things to cook now that we are kind of on our own?

Finally hit me…

Seeing all the posts on here over the last few weeks I was surprised that I had yet to be affected by the chaos. Last week was fine, I still received the individually bagged meals and nothing was missing. And then this week was a disaster. The box was two days late. It was originally supposed to be here on Wednesday then it was delayed to Thursday with no warning and then we didn’t receive it until Friday night. Ice packs were entirely melted, everything was warm; which didn’t end up mattering much because I got not even a third of the ingredients I needed. Two of the meals had protein but I received no protein at all. Not enough ingredients to make a single meal.

They already refunded me for this box and they cancelled my next box without warning. That was fine with me because I cancelled my subscription before the box even came. I knew I was no longer spared by the issues since it was two days late.

I just switched to BA from Marley Spoon who I had left due to similar issues BA is experiencing now. I’m disappointed since I really liked BAs meals. Well, it’s safe to say I’m crawling back to Hello Fresh after a year of trying other services.

I received an empty box this week. They shipped a box with just ice packs. 🤯🤯

You see two servings of Salmon with Creamy Dill Sauce and two servings of Spicy Tomato & Garlic Gnocchi, right? RIGHT?

Last week was a mess too, so I’ve skipped the next two weeks. I know a lot of you are dealing with this too. What are we thinking, robots? AI? Aliens?

I Have a Theory: Robot Fulfillment

The wording in the email we just got, specifically under “What is Blue Apron doing to fix this?”, got me thinking and now I have a crackpot theory that I have no way of proving or even investigating and I have 0 inside information but here it is.

Blue Apron chose a new “fulfillment partner” who promised that they can reduce their workforce headcount by leaning into automation and box filling robots and the machines are simply not working as expected. Automation could explain why boxes are now just piles of ingredients instead of full meals packaged together in plastic. It would be easier in an automated assembly line to just fill a box with ingredients then to separate out and package full meals.

The boxes that people are getting this week don’t seem like anything a human would have packed much less signed off on.

Blue Apron’s parent company also feels like the type of company would try to cut costs in this way.

Update from So Cal- we got hit

I’ve been saying everything’s been fine out here in Ventura County, CA, but alas, our 8/17 box was completely canceled for us. Hoping we get it back soon… how are you the rest of you So Cal-ers doing?

BA: Great Depression cuisine is here.

So, I just cracked open my Blue Apron mystery box, that could’ve fit a microwave.
Behold, this week’s “meal kit”:
One (1) bag of spinach. That’s bold, spinach doesn’t even need a recipe, truly a chef’s choice
One (1) pepper, pre-broken for my convenience (saves me the trouble of breaking it myself, very thoughtful)
Some green onions, just vibing along
One (1) lemon, for when I need to add a garnish to my confusion
1 sad packet of sherry vinegar, because nothing says “dinner” like a condiment that is not on any of the recipes.

To make things more interesting: No recipe card. No protein. No starch. No sauce packets. No explanation. No mercy. Just five ingredients that look like they lost a fight with the bottom of a produce drawer, tossed in a box the size of a mini fridge, someone in the warehouse looked at it, went “eh, close enough, ship it.”

10/10 mystery box. 0/10 meal. Guess I’m freestyling “Lemon Sherry Regret” tonight and calling it fine dining.
