Polymer clay sculpture

Hey all want to get into clay sculpting! I found this really cool sculpture piece as an Inspo and wanted to try something like this. I’m new to this so is there a certain clay that is used? Is tin foil/paper normally used for the base mold shape? After molding the shape with clay does it need to be baked? What sort of paint tends to get used to achieve this sort of sculpture look? How is this glossiness achieved? Any other advice/steps I should take into consideration?
