I made a Wordle for dating old maps (guess the year from redacted historical maps)

Hi guys! I wanted to get better at dating old maps so I made a game for it: https://datetheglobe.jenniferjiangkells.com

It’s reverse-wordle style, where every wrong guess gives you the direction (too early/too late), temperature (within 2/9/24 years), and a piece of evidence that contradicts or narrows down the year (e.g. a country that didn’t exist yet). Maps are sourced from the public domain with the year redacted. It’s basically a gamified version of this xkcd chart.

My husband and I have been playing it ourselves and it low-key slaps, so I figured it’s time to share it. Would love to hear what people think of it - any feedback on the game mechanics, additions to the knowledge base, or suggestions for cool map sources to use!

Rate my inflatable globe (2)

This is my secnd attempt. First was only one photo and not very sharp. I also need my karma building up a bit.

I'm in the DR Congo and only have an inflatable globe which a friend gave me.

Help date this globe

Edit: General consensus seems to point to the most specific date being sometime around 1975, 50 years old! Thanks everyone 🙏🙏

¿Año aproximado de la publicación?

Lo dato entre 1885 y 1906, ya que el nombre “Congo Free State” abarca esas fechas. El problema es que no aparece la repartición de África de 1885.

Can anyone help to settle a debate about this map?

My SO and me are in disagreement about when this map was drawn. I think it is from around 1650 while they think it’s from around 1825. Can anyone help us settle this debate?
