So is everyone in the Cars & Bids universe just wildly rich?

I've been listening to THIS car pod for a while, as well as some of the other segments like Cars & Friends. Obviously Doug is rich from being a successful youtuber, no mystery there. But everyone else seems loaded too?

  • Kennan is under 30 and has bought a Ferrari 355 before, and is considering another supercar purchase. Seems to come from a wealthy family.
  • Nick seems very loaded yet I can't figure out how (he claims it's SEO I think?). Has a house and a family in San Diego, and has owned a Murcielago and currently drives an SLR.
  • Filippo's frugality is a running joke, but he still has 3 cars including a 911 targa; as well as a house in San Diego. Average house price in San Diego is $1M by the way.

I was watching the "what would you replace your cars with" video, and thought producer Sean would bring a more normal perspective; but he currently owns a G-wagon, an M2, and a Ferrari 360.

I have done well in my career, worked for major name brand companies and made 6 figures. But I feel like it must be peanuts compared to what the Cars & Bids staff are making. I cannot justify a car over $30k. I've owned an E39 before, but cannot justify the insane maintenance bills that Kennan pays. I want to own a house someday so I can't blow my whole budget on cars.

Anyone else notice this? Maybe they all just got an equity windfall when C&B sold out? I still enjoy the pod, but lately it feels like a roundtable of rich guys talking about rich guy things.

An ode to Cars & Bids - response to most recent video

I’ve never posted on Reddit before but I hope Doug and the crew get to read this.

I recently moved to a new city for an investment banking analyst gig. I know nobody here. I work 90-100 hours a week, and so have no time to meet anyone outside work. The one day I do get somewhat off, Saturday, is the only day I get for rest, exercise, and general mental health upkeep. Every Saturday, a great deal of that time is spent on the phone with friends & family, and consuming Dougverse content - catching up on auction results, the pod, and the videos missed.

I’ve seen every single Cars & Bids pod, in its entirety. The personality and friendship dynamics of Doug and his friends mirror so much of what I miss about my friends back home. It’s made what I’m doing tolerable, and has allowed me to remain relatively sane as I progress through the grind years of my early life. It’s a reminder that I’m working for something, and my friends are there for me now and when it’s over. It’s hard to describe how much of a lift to my mental health you all are. You guys are hilarious, and not that you had any plans of stopping or need motivation but please keep doing your thing.

Best,

Random internet dude

I need fun practical car ideas

I’m 26yrs old i live in northern Kentucky (winters get pretty snowy) I have a medium size dog a Girlfriend who rides with me 80% of the time and I golf all the time (I want a trunk that fits my clubs nicely)

I have 20k to spend on a car. I’m getting out of my 2021 Chevy Silverado and want to get a daily driver that is fun and engaging.

I previously owned a 2007 civic si and loved it but I want something more luxury.

I would prefer 4 doors and AWD but I’m not against Fwd I like manuals so that’s in the conversation, they don’t have to be brand new cars but I do want something that will fit my budget and have no more than 80,000 miles. I don’t want a bunch of comments saying “Rs3” or “BMW” I want something a bit unique, and if anything somewhat reliable!

I have looked into 2018 g80 and g70 genesis 3.3t sport AWD and Golf R’s and Gti’s , Mercedes e400 wagons, but I want more ideas I started to look into Hyundai Elantra N’s as well.

If you were me what would you buy?

Car Spotting in Navi Mumbai

Incredibly I have spotted two different MG Cybersters in the wild in Mumbai in the last 24 hours… one very unfortunately with a ding in the rear quarter panel already. It sounds like there have been roughly 650 sold in India since the launch last year.

Why does Doug like MBUX so much?

Every time he reviews a Mercedes he gives it raving reviews. The design language just looks so cartoonish to me. I’ll give them credit for it being responsive, but I’m not impressed by much else.
