About 5 years ago I purchased a GOBI Stealth rack and ladder for my 1978. It was during the pandemic, and it took them a long time to fulfill the order - several months.

During that time, the ownership of the FJ40 was “in doubt” according to the state of Washington, and I had to wait a couple of years before I could be issued with a clean title.

Working on it, it became clear the engine was toast, so I parked it up in my garage and did nothing with it, waiting for the title. I determined it would just have to wait until the title was in hand.

After sourcing and fetching an engine from Michigan, we finally got everything running and then life happened again (cancer took my friend after 21 months of fighting it), we bought and moved house, and so on - you know, life and death stuff.

We are at the point now where the new house is stable enough for us to start doing non house projects, and so we unpacked the rack.

We come to find that GOBI never sent either of the rear rack support towers or either of the power support plates.

Calling GOBI, their CS lady seemed less than impressed that we would frankly dare to call about this after so long. She said that she’d see what management says, but we haven’t heard anything from them since. We sent the original purchase order as she didn’t think she could even find information from that long ago.

I realize that this is a long time, but we still need the parts and so would be happy to buy them from GOBI (they’re not listed on their site).

My question to the group is whether anyone has had success sourcing from alternative companies? As a backup really, in case we continue to get stone walled by GOBI.
