Finished the series

...for about the 10th time😂

My folks and I try to watch the series once a year. Tonight, we concluded our annual rewatch with the final episode of the series.

It hit especially hard and in a way that had never hit before. The final scene with Lindsay getting on the bus, saying bye to her folks, Bill, and Neil with "Ripple" playing in the background did me in-- I'm talking full on tears.

I first watched this show when I was in high school. I turn 30 years old this week. Watching it with my parents who remind me a lot of the Weirs - firm but deeply caring- has been such a gift. As I reflect on my own "series finale" of my 20's, I just think about all of these beautifully complex characters and how we are all standing on the precipice of our next chapter, all together, blending timelines of fiction, past and present, all of it coming together in a way that any person can relate to who may be going through a life change.

I was moved enough to write this small homage to truly the finest season of television that exists. Thank you, Freaks & Geeks, for being all that you are. You mean so much to me!

Cheers y'all.

One of the reasons I love Harris

I was rewatching the Halloween episode, specifically when Allan and the bullies tell Sam and company to give them the candy. The geeks get beaten up pretty quickly, but Harris is the only one who grabs one of the bullies and tries to fight back. He’s such a badass in his own weird way. I would have loved to see him become a regular if the show continued.

Does Mr. Rosso see something of himself in Lindsay?

Being a former hippie activist who now works in a position of authority, busting kids for many of the same stunts he probably used to pull, Jeff Rosso must feel pretty conflicted at times. Lindsey is in a similar position, torn between the mathletes and the burnouts, not entirely fitting into either world. I wonder if that similarity is why he seems to take such an interest in her life, why he holds her to such a high standard.

Showing appreciation to the different filming sets and locations on Freaks and Geeks. Which is your favorite?

Might have missed some. We have McKinnley High, the Weir Home, Nick's basement, non-alcoholic beer Liquor store, a Burger joint, all-you-can-eat Iron Horse, Millie's cousin's dungeon, Shackies aka Wendy's, A1 Sporting goods. Which is your favorite and why?

My least favorite thing about Freaks and Geeks: the final credits! It always seems the episode ends so quickly 😩

Watching the Cultureshock documentary on Freaks and Geeks made me appreciate the show even more. Seeing how much Paul Feig and Judd Apatow cared about it, hearing Judd say that he cries every time he watches the pilot episode, seeing the goodbye party, it was really moving…
