What would you replace the abandoned gas station downtown with?

What would you replace the abandoned gas station downtown with?

Gang, why is it still like this? Does the owner just refuse to sell or develop it? There’s grass growing in the parking lot now. Such a shame that they’ve left this property to rot when it’s in such a prime location in the heart of Gloucester. Properties got to be worth several million dollars yet it’s just left there like that. Is it the city, the owner, something to do with the old gas tanks underneath? I feel like we’ve been waiting for a decade for them to do literally anything with this property.

Personally I’d like to see a community space here but maybe that’s wishful thinking. I feel like we’d take anything other than a rotting old gas station at this point.

What are some things you’d like to see built here?

Bachelorette/Bachelor Party?

Hey all. Any suggestions for a Jack & Jill bachelorette/bachelor party in late September? Was thinking potentially fishing charter, but we'd have over 6 people. Schooner sail? Or any recommended bars/pubs for nightlife? Thank you so much in advance!

St Peter’s Fiesta

Visiting Gloucester for the first time this June during St Peter’s Fiesta and I want to hear all your best tips and tricks for having a fun time at this event!

I’m staying about 2 miles away from Pavillion Beach. Should I drive or uber to get downtown during the festival? Best places to post up to watch the boat races or the greasy pole?

What’s the food truck/ stall situation for the festival? Anything in particular that is a must try? There are so many amazing looking restaurants in Cape Ann, I’m trying to decide how much of my time will go to the festival vs exploring and eating around the cape.

Also, how large is the carnival? Is it worth attending and is there a fee to get in?

Any and all tips are welcome!

My grandmother (left) and her sisters-in-law Annie and Peg, 1930s.

Does anyone recognize where this is? I'm guessing Good Harbor Beach,.

My grandmother was born and raised in Gloucester, and worked as the secretary at Gloucester High. Annie was from Cape Ann, too. Pigeon Cove in Rockport. She worked at Brown's Dept store. Peg was from Arkansas, by way of Oklahoma and married my uncle "Cappy," a star baseball player at Gloucester High. Their brother Joe ran the Railroad Ave Market. We have pretty deep roots in that town. And we love it
