Need help understanding SSL coverage with Deluxe Hosting plan — 1 hosting, 2 domains
Hey everyone,
I'm hoping someone with more GoDaddy experience can help me clarify something, because I think I might have misunderstood what I was told by support.
I'm currently managing a client's GoDaddy account (I'm not super experienced with cPanel/hosting myself, so bear with me). The setup is:
- 1 cPanel Hosting account (Deluxe plan)
- 2 separate root domains pointing to the same hosting
When I originally spoke with GoDaddy sales/support, I was under the impression that upgrading the client to the Deluxe Hosting plan would cover both domains with SSL. Based on that, I advised my client to upgrade to Deluxe specifically for this reason.
Now that I'm actually setting things up, only the primary domain has SSL coverage. The second domain (which is added as an addon domain in cPanel and is already pointing to the server via DNS) shows as "not covered by the installed certificate" in the SSL/TLS Status panel.
I also opened a ticket with the Website Security / Sucuri team, and they told me:
- Their Website Security Deluxe plan only covers the domain it's attached to (the primary one).
- For the second domain, I'd either need a separate Website Security plan or get a basic SSL through cPanel's AutoSSL feature.
- AutoSSL itself is managed by the GoDaddy Hosting team, not Sucuri, and they recommended I contact Hosting support to enable it.
So my questions for anyone here who knows the GoDaddy ecosystem well:
- Did I misunderstand the Deluxe Hosting SSL coverage? Does Deluxe Hosting actually include free SSL for multiple domains on the same account, or only the primary domain?
- Is AutoSSL available on Deluxe cPanel Hosting plans? When I check the SSL/TLS Status panel in cPanel, I can see the AutoSSL system is referenced (it says certificates "will not renew via AutoSSL because they were not issued via AutoSSL"), but there's no "Run AutoSSL" button anywhere I can find.
- If AutoSSL is supposed to be available, what's the right way to ask Hosting support to enable it? I want to make sure I phrase the request correctly so I don't get bounced around between departments again.
- Has anyone been in this exact situation (one Deluxe Hosting account with multiple root domains needing SSL) and gotten it resolved? What worked?
I really appreciate any guidance. I want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious before I either call Hosting support again or look at alternative solutions for the client.
Thanks in advance!
