Outback storage

Looking for ideas on outback storage for the winter. I currently keep it outside under a kayak tarp on some soft dirt that has molded to the shape of the bottom of the kayak. Is this good enough to prevent warping over the winter? It has seemed to hold up fine over the summer so far. I don’t have a garage or shed to put it in and any storage units that are big enough to fit the kayak are out of my budget. Would I have any issues with this? Or should I just try to sell it before it warps and buy another one when I’m in a better position

Crab slaying 12’ outback

It’s not easy pulling 100’ of line from a Mirage Pro Angler but if you sit low it’s “pretty” safe.

Hobie adventure island 2011 vs 2017 Re-design

Does anyone have any experience of these boats. I've only rented the 2026 and it performed amazingly close hauled/reach and on a beam reach of 20+knots and waves due to wind against tide. I was able to reach 9+ knots.

I'm looking at two used in my area and the 2011 appeals due to lighter weight and ease of car topping solo, but I would be disappointed if it couldn't sail as well on those conditions.

Hobie H Rail Accessory Mount?

Hey all i just bought a new to me hobie PA14. Still familiarizing myself with the kayak and all its accessories.

It’s got this H rail mount. I tried researching what it may go to or if it comes like this. Is something missing where the bolt head is? Anyone have an idea what it goes to or what for?

Plastic welding a crack in a Hobie hull.

Plastic welding a crack

I wanted to post some pictures of plastic welding a crack in the hull.

My Outback cracked at the high seat post area and I while the area is now well supported by my seat support plates, I still wanted to repair the hull.

First thing I did was drill out the ends of the crack to keep the crack from expanding.

I used a cheap Amazon plastic welding kit to melt in some “wavy staples” and added some plastic over the area to get it water tight.

It’s impossible to get behind that area of the hull so adding some weld in staples seemed like the way to go.

I was in a bit of a hurry so the repair isn’t as visually appealing as it could be but since the seat support plate gets installed over it, I wasn’t too worried about the look.
