Lago Vista Council unanimously denies Flock contract renewal after packed room speaks out in opposition

Dozens of Lago Vistans in a packed August 6 City Council meeting spoke out against renewing the city’s contract with Flock for automatic license plate reading (ALPR) cameras. The council voted unanimously to reject the contract.

Not a single person spoke in favor of the cameras, other than the representative from Flock.

This was a rejection of the Lago Vista Police Department’s defense of the system before Council in July. The city currently has four operable cameras, with a fifth no longer operating. https://citizenportal.ai/articles/8367053/texas/travis-county/lago-vista/Texas/Travis-County/Lago-Vista/After-months-of-quiet-deployment-police-defend-Flock-cameras-as-residents-demand-transparency

Lago citizens made many powerful statements objecting to the cameras, and ultimately prevailed.

”This decisive action reflects the voice of our community and the council’s commitment to responding to citizen concerns,” said Mayor Shane Saum. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EqBphGipf/?

Noted Councilperson, Place 2, Adam Benefield, “Every council member took those concerns seriously, asked thoughtful questions, and ultimately voted unanimously to terminate the contract effective immediately.” https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DDcZhNTrN/?
