There was this one song that I loved to listen to in 2022 that I think was called "they don't know we're fun". It was a chill electronic song with english lyrics by a small korean girl group. The cover was what looked like 4 girls faces pressed up against a glass window.

Hi Reddit, I’m Mongoose, an indie singer-songwriter based in South Korea. I recently released my debut EP [Remain Project], and I wanted to share the core of this album with you: the double title track, "Coexistence" (공존).
Here is the concept: Both versions of "Coexistence" share the exact same lyrics, word for word. But the genres and soundscapes are completely different.
When we face a deep loss, our minds often split into two states. I wanted to capture that duality using the same words:
🦋 Butterfly Ver. (Dream Pop): A dreamy, atmospheric track. It represents the lingering attachments, the denial of reality, and the desire to fly away to an unreachable ideal.
🌑 Shadow Ver. (Modern Rock): A heavy, bass-driven alternative track. It represents finally looking down at your feet, accepting the dark reality, and letting the pain settle like a shadow.
This project is a collection of the emotional remnants that pierced through my entire 20s. It’s a period of wandering, heartbreak, and ultimately, finding acceptance.
I would be so grateful if you could give it a listen. Which version resonates with you more—the Butterfly or the Shadow? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Haole kid here who has fallen in love with Leenalchi (saw them in the U.S. this week) and wants to know more — especially the folklore behind the lyrics. I don’t speak a lick of Korean, and the translate apps are moderately helpful but have no depth. Can anyone tell me more (or point me to English-language sources) about the pansori stories behind their incredible songs? I feel like they must resonate, partly because of the sizable pack of Korean grandmas who were rocking it at the show.
