Let's hike to the top of Mount Hollywood

Griffith Observatory - Sunday the 24th - 10:33am

I'm gonna hike up Mount Hollywood Sunday, and it'd be great to have some company!

This very popular hike is 3 miles on wide trails and is fairly easy. The top of Mt Hollywood features 360-degree views of LA and the Valley, the Hollywood sign and maybe Catalina, if the marine haze cooperates. I'm guesstimating the hike will take about 2 hours.

We'll meet here at the Observatory DASH stop when the 10:33 bus arrives. The DASH fare is 50 cents cash, or 35 cents with TAP.

Bring water and sun protection, and a snack or lunch to enjoy at picnic tables near the peak. Any comfy walking shoes will do. Water and toilets are at the trailhead.

Sunday weather forecast for Griffith Park (warm)

If you're driving (why?) parking is impossible and expensive at the Obervatory, so park for free here at the Greek Theater and walk up or catch the 10:24 bus at the DASH stop across the street from the parking lot.

Remember Parkline?

Parkline was a free shuttle that puttered around Griffith Park briefly from December 2019 until it died of COVID a few months later. I rode it a couple times; it was handy while it lasted, though the interminable traffic jam on Los Feliz made traveling on the south side really tedious.

Since 2023 the city's been developing a new shuttle which would connect the Universal City B line station with the park's north and east sides, wisely leaving the Observatory to the existing DASH service. With the proposed 15-minute headways (!) this would be a huge benefit for transit hikers. Fingers crossed.

This August city memo is the latest info I can find about it.
