What was that magazine?

Hi, folks. I'm looking for a magazine that I saw this year at Barnes & Noble. It was perfect bound (like a book with a spine), slightly oversized, under $20.00.

It was a first issue whose title may have sounded faintly anatomical, edible, bodily, or otherwise visceral—paired with a muted, slightly odd animal collage (goat???) that made the whole package feel more mysterious than disgusting. Dark maroon background, one word title.

It had website for subscriptions - this was the first issue - maybe 4 issues/year.

It was a broadly interesting and intriguing magazine - not genre specific.

Could be from 2025, but unlikely. Independent magazine, but especially publications whose branding/title would make a normal person say, “What the heck is that?” while the cover made you pick it up anyway.

  • sold nationally,
  • broad enough for a general reader,
  • beautifully designed,
  • intellectually eclectic,
  • more "curiosity cabinet" than "design object".

The cover was not slick, not glossy, not exactly minimalist. It was almost... assembled-looking.

Does anybody know what magazines were physically sitting on Barnes & Noble shelves in 2026 (possibly 2025) that a curious nonfiction reader would impulsively buy? Except that I didn't buy it. Shame on me.
