What would it take for Minecraft to have a serious competitive scene?
I've been thinking about Minecraft from a competitive/esports perspective, and after reading some of the criticism on my previous post, I think I was looking at the problem from the wrong angle.
Minecraft already has a lot of competitive activities: PvP, BedWars, UHC, SkyWars, speedrunning, build competitions, etc.
But unlike games such as Valorant, BGMI or Free Fire, there isn't one standardized competitive format that everyone can rally around.
So instead of asking:
“Should Minecraft have esports?”
I'm asking:
“If you had to design a serious Minecraft esport from scratch, what would it look like?”
What would you prioritize?
⚔️ PvP/mechanical skill
🧠 Strategy & resource management
🎯 Objectives/territory control
🏃 Movement
🏗️ Building/technical skill
🌎 Survival
🔀 A combination of several
💡 A completely new format
And what do you think is currently the biggest obstacle to Minecraft becoming competitive at a professional level?
I'm genuinely looking for criticism here. If you think the idea is fundamentally flawed, explain why.
I'm exploring the possibility of eventually organizing competitive Minecraft events, but before spending money or building anything, I want to understand whether there's actually a format that players would want to compete in and viewers would want to watch.
#poll_question..
If you could create ONE standardized Minecraft esport, what would you choose?
