Redmi 10S stuck on MIUI 12.5.13.0 — unable to connect to Mi servers or check Google app updates

Hi everyone,

I recently found my old Redmi 10S which had been lying unused for around 3 years.

After doing some minor repairs, including fixing the rear camera, I managed to get the phone working again. However, I am facing a couple of issues that I can't seem to resolve.

1. Unable to check for MIUI updates

The phone is currently running: MIUI Version: 12.5.13.0

When I go to the system updater and try to check for updates, it gives me an error saying that it is unable to connect to the update/Mi servers.

I have tried:

  • Changing the Region to different countries
  • Restarting the phone
  • Connecting through different Wi-Fi networks
  • Checking the updater repeatedly

But the phone still cannot connect to the Mi update servers.

2. Google Play / app updates also don't work automatically

I am also seeing problems with Google services. The phone doesn't seem to automatically connect to check for app updates, and I get errors when trying to check for updates.

This makes me wonder whether the problem is related to the phone being unused for such a long period, some expired/old system component, Google Play Services, certificates, or possibly the MIUI version itself

The Phone Otherwise boots and works normally.

  • MIUI OTA update: ❌ Cannot connect to server
  • Google app updates: ❌ Errors when checking/updating

Has anyone encountered this issue with a Redmi 10S that has been unused for several years?

Could the MIUI 12.5.13.0 updater/server issue be because this version is now too old, or is there something I should reset/update manually before attempting a newer MIUI version?

Thanks!
