Londoner looking to move to East Northampton?

Hi everyone! My wife and I have been looking at houses in Northampton for a while now, and one near Rectory Farm / Billing Park caught our eye. Anyone know much about the area?

I saw another post talking about the east being apart of the town expansion and therefore was a little more rough, though didn’t see any immediate signs of that from the listing. From the surrounding shops or lack there of, it also seems a very quiet area which isn’t too big of a deal, though in an ideal world I’d be near somewhere to play football or other sports.

My wife works in retail and I’m remote so hoping my wife can get a job within the Weston Favell Shopping centre or thereabouts. So would appreciate any notes on the center and how it is, both in quality and safety too.

Thanks!

Looking for things to do around here

Hi all I'm 23 years old and I'm looking for things to do around the northampton area to make some friends. I'm into gaming, but I'm looking to expand my horizons. I'm not all that picky. The only thing I refuse to do is clubbing it's just not my thing.

This weekend (summer mischief market)

You all gave my first post such an amazing response, so I just wanted to pop back on and remind you that this weekend is my very first event! 🖤✨

I'm hosting the Chaos Collective Summer Mischief Market at The Black Prince in Northampton an alternative market packed with incredible artists, makers and small businesses.

I'm so excited... and if I'm honest, slightly terrified too! 😂 But I can't wait to see it all come together and meet so many of you.

If you're free on Saturday 4th July, 11:00am–4:30pm, come along, say hello, support some amazing independent businesses, and maybe treat yourself to something wonderfully weird. 🖤✨

I'd absolutely love to see some friendly faces there!

Dash cam footage needed - M1, Watford Gap Services, Monday, 11 PM

I apologise this is not trucking related, but you guys are on the motorway a lot with dash cams so there may be someone who can help. Thank you in advance.

I was travelling Northbound through Watford Gap
Services when I believe I had rock/s dropped onto my car from the footbridge above at around 11.09PM on Sunday (Typo in title! It was not Monday)

Police have been informed, I've requested CCTV from Highways England, and my insurance company has contacted the service station for additional CCTV
If anyone was driving through Watford Gap services at around 11PM on Sunday night and caught anyone on the bridge/s please DM me

I passed my test last month, this is the only working car my family has right now which I bought two weeks ago, and I have an extremely sick relative who I cannot travel to easily now. This has completely crippled my life and is causing so much instability.

I know this is extremely unlikely, but l am desperate for any leads and was nearly killed in this incident. Thank you.

Relocating, please help...

Hiya,

I'm relocating to Northamptonshire and would love to get some knowledge from actual residents and locals please. We have a budget of around £365k and are preferably looking for a 4bed, if possible. I'd like to live in Kettering, as I've heard prices are a bit lower, but there's no compromise on safety - is this true of Barton Seagrave or the NN16/NN15 areas? Also looking at Rushden and further to Daventry.

I'd appreciate advice on areas I should avoid please most of all, but if you could also direct me to a safer area for my budget, that would be a great help.

I'll be commuting to Bedford for work via car.

Thanks Northamptonians!

Buying first home in Northampton (King's Heath)

Evening everyone.

Looking at buying our first property together and we have viewed a property on Bourne Crescent in Kings Heath.

Whilst the area looks a little rough around the edges, neither of us have lived in Northampton and are coming South.

When asking the estate agent about the area, all he refers to is how many houses in the area have sold. Side swiping the question.

I just want to know before I make a financial decision this big. Am I going to regret it.

Any recommended areas or ideas would be lovely 🙏🏻

I'm a big fan of secondhand shopping to find products for low cost. I always found it frustrating that there's no single place to easily find nearby charity shops, thrift stores, car boot sales, antique fairs, table top sales, or vintage markets. Google Maps misses loads of them.

So I decided to build an app to solve that which would be really useful while travelling. You can even share your thrift haul.

It's called Ganddee (free on iOS & Android).

I’d love for you to try it out and hear feedback.

Best places in Northampton to find reasonably priced furniture that can be delivered?

Need some furniture for a place i’m moving in to in a month and don’t wanna end up spending too much (as i’ll only be renting for a year). I’ve heard the BHF can be great so might pop into there but any other ideas? I don’t drive so unfortunately picking something up myself is out the question.

Looking for a decent barber/hairdresser

Hi, 18M I'm looking to get a haircut before I go to uni in September. I generally prefer longer/medium length hair styles like a sort of 90s Damon Albarn moptop. I've had a very hit or miss run with barbers over the last few years with them often cutting my hair far shorter than how I ask and show with reference photos. I'm looking for a decent place that doesn't cut hair ridiculously short and hopefully doesn't charge too much. Any help would be appreciated!🙏

borrowing books

Hi! I am visiting some relatives in Northampton this summer. I am interested in borrowing books from the library (if it is possible, but as a foreigner I think not), especially book series (fantasy mostly) since those have multiple volumes and would be difficult to bring it with me.

Do you have any ideas? Also, what second-hand bookshops do you recommend going?

Wtf happened to Welly road?

Spent some time on it today for the first time in years. Spent almost a decade working on it nearer to the APH end. It was never all posh then, but a good mix of audio shops, couple of decent barbers, pubs estate and letting agents etc and generally always looked clean and well kept.

Today it looked like a bomb had hit it. The barber I used to use was now one of a good half dozen Turkish obvious-dodgy type shops full of mirrors and LEDS. Countless foreign food shops and half of them with pallets of crap out the front. One of the popular bars had a removable front fitted; it'd look great if it was anywhere else but where it is? May as well be on the Gaza strip.

It feels like the bottom part of Kettering road had become contagious and spread the rot all the way down to Abington park. And the less said about the moronic parking up towards town, the better; taxies and deliveroo types no doubt :(

Such a shame as it used to have a bit of character!

Somewhere in town for acrylic nails - recommendations required.

I’ve been getting my nails done in town at the same place for the last 6 years. Sadly, my nail tech has moved away and I’m not happy with the replacement.

The nails are poor, the shape is odd and she didn’t repair one that’s lifting so I’m only giving it a few days. She nicked my cuticles today and I got heat spikes on another.

About me: I don’t actually getting my nails done! I don’t like the vibration or the sensation, but I love having long nails. I just have acrylic but no colour as I’m a nail polish hoarder and love painting my own. I’m not a fan of small talk either.

Looking for somewhere decent and easy going where I can trust the tech as that’s the big thing for me.

Based NN3. Recommendations welcome.
