Came across this new local ride app in Himachal — could actually be useful here

Recently came across CLIXI, a local ride app operating around Dharamshala, Kangra, Palampur and Gaggal.

They have:

🚕 Neo for local cab rides
🏍️ Zip for quick bike rides

Thought I’d share it here because finding a ride for short distances around these areas can sometimes be a headache, especially if you don’t have your own vehicle.

It’s available on both Google Play Store and App Store.

Would be interesting to know if anyone here has already tried it or what your experience with local transport in these areas has been.

Moving to Kangra Valley — looking for local advice

Hi everyone! I’m 24 and currently based in Indore. I’m a working professional and also preparing for CAT, and I’m seriously considering moving to the Kangra Valley for a longer-term stay.

I’m planning to build a remote career, so I’m looking for a place that works for both WFH and studying, rather than somewhere that’s only great for a short vacation.

My priorities are:

🏔️ Beautiful mountain views and greenery

📶 Reliable high-speed internet/fibre for full-time remote work

⚡ Reliable electricity and minimal power cuts — this is especially important for WFH and my desktop PC

🌿 Peaceful, safe and reasonably non-touristy

🚌 Good connectivity to Dharamshala, Pathankot and Chandigarh

🏥 Reasonable access to healthcare, markets and everyday necessities

☕ Some cafés/social spaces would be a bonus

🌧️ Ideally somewhere where monsoon doesn't make life too difficult

🏳️‍🌈 I’m also gay and would love to find a friendly LGBTQ+/queer community or even just a few like-minded people around.

I’ve been looking at Dharamshala, Palampur, Baijnath, Bir, Kangra, Sidhbari/Rakkar and nearby areas, but I’m struggling to figure out which places are actually best for living rather than visiting.

A few practical questions

  1. Which place in the Kangra Valley would you recommend for my situation?

Would you choose Palampur, Dharamshala, Baijnath, Bir, Kangra, Sidhbari/Rakkar, or somewhere else nearby?

  1. Is it realistic to find a decent place to live for around ₹10,000/month?

I’m not looking for anything fancy—just a clean, safe place with reliable internet where I can work and study.

  1. How reliable are internet and electricity in these areas?

I’d really appreciate specific information about:

Fibre availability (Jio/Airtel/local ISPs)

Actual speeds and reliability

Jio/Airtel 4G/5G backup

How often power cuts happen

Whether longer power cuts happen during monsoon/winter

Whether people generally use inverters/UPS

I'll be working remotely, and I'll have a desktop PC, so both electricity and internet reliability are genuinely important to me.

  1. I’ll be bringing my desktop PC with me.

I’m travelling from Indore, and I don't have a huge budget for the move. What would be the cheapest and safest way to transport a desktop PC to Kangra Valley? Would you recommend train + bus, courier/transport service, or something else?

  1. Any recommendations for meeting people/community?

Since I’ll be moving alone, I'd really appreciate suggestions for places where a 24-year-old can meet other young people, remote workers, students, LGBTQ+ people, or generally like-minded folks.

I'm trying to keep the move practical and affordable while still getting that mountain + remote-work + study lifestyle.

I'd especially appreciate advice from people who actually live in these areas or have spent several months there, rather than just visiting.

Thanks! 🙏🏔️🏳️‍🌈

Your experience living in Himachal Pradesh?

Hey everyone,

I currently live in a small town near the borders of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pardesh.

I absolutely love Himachal Pradesh, its people and culture.

I am interested in living there with my family in the near future.

The one place I am looking at now is Palampur.

I have found that there are some options for buying land and homes for non-Himachalis under schemes of HIMUDA.

I am starting my research and would really like advice and guidance from you guys, specifically if you are someone who is a non-Himachali and shifted there.

How and what is it to live in a city like Palampur? What's the cost of living like? What is a general real estate trend (is it normal or hyper inflated like Dehradun which is basically flooded with people exploiting the valley for businesses and profits).

Thank you in advance!!

Moving to Palampur from Indore for Remote Work & CAT Prep – Need Advice!

Hi everyone!

I'm a 24-year-old from Indore, and I'm planning to move to Palampur for at least 6–12 months. I work remotely (WFH) and I'm also preparing for the CAT exam, so I'm looking for a peaceful, quiet place with good internet and a comfortable environment to focus on work and studies.

I have a few questions for locals:

Which areas in or around Palampur would you recommend for someone living alone?

Is it easy to find a private room/1RK/1BHK for around ₹5,000–7,000 per month?

How reliable is the internet? Which ISP is the best for remote work?

Are there frequent power cuts? Is power backup common in rentals?

What would be a realistic monthly budget (rent + food + utilities + internet + transport) for a simple lifestyle?

Is it easy to rent a scooter, or is buying a second-hand one a better option?

Are there good cafés or coworking spaces with reliable Wi-Fi?

How safe is Palampur for someone living alone?

How is the weather throughout the year, especially during winters and the monsoon?

Are there any hidden issues I should know before moving?

Is healthcare easily accessible if needed?

Would you recommend Palampur over nearby places like Dharamshala or Bir for someone seeking peace and productivity?

I'm not looking for nightlife or city life—just a calm place with greenery, mountains, reliable internet, and everything needed for day-to-day living.

Thanks in advance! I'd really appreciate any advice or suggestions from people who live there or have spent time in Palampur.
